Spraying a rear spoiler

    I'm spraying my rear spoiler and have never done it before so just thought i'd ask for a bit of advice before i buy my stuff.

    I know i need primer and the main paint but how much will i need. The aerosols are 300ml will i need more than one of each? Also i've been told i need to put clear lacquer on top, is this necessary?

    yea you need primer, paint and clear lacquer, and id say its necessary for it to match your car if its matalic? also it protect's the paint, i think you should be ok with one tin of paint and laquer, but check first as i cant remember
    1, rub the spoiler down before primeing
    2, primer
    3, paint
    4, lacquer

    there is some rubbing down involved inbertween coats but i didnt do that so i cant help you with that,
    not the best info but its a start hope it helps

    if it is un painted and plastic remember to use a plastic primer also called a plastisizer i belive

    plastersizer is for flex, you dont need for a solid spoiler
    if its not a new one just flat till you remove blemeshes
    no need to reprime unless you go through to the plastic
    then only need to spot prime,,you can use etch primer
    if you want quicker (drying)

    It's already been painted before but the paint is flaking off so gotta rub it down and do it again. I assume this means i don't need the plastic primer? just normal primer?

    What condition is the spoliler in? eg. Painted/Non Painted ext.

    If its unpainted.
    Basicly what you need to do is...

    1.Rub it down with 400 Grade Sandpaper (Gives the surface a key'd effect)

    {Use a panel wipe to get all dust&dirt off}

    2.Mask up well and Spray grey PLASTIC primer. (Leave few mins in between coats. 3 coats should do as long as its covered well. dont add to much at once or it will run)

    3.Once dry rub over very lightly with Wet&Dry Grade 1000 & dry it off. (rub over very lightly dont rub it off.)

    4.Spray a few coats of paint and leave to dry well. (2-3 Coats)

    5.Spray 2-3 Coats of clear lacquer and leave to dry well.

    stand back & enjoy

    If its painted...

    1.Rub down with 400 Grade sandpaper.

    {Use panel wipe}
    Then...
    Steps 4 & 5.

    when using the wet and dry rub a bar of soap lightly over the top it'll prevent the sandpaper from clogging up and will make it easer to sand and give a smoother finish

    I just got my paint from a1 autowise i wanted to do a little test to see if the paint matched the car, i just did it on an old piece of metal and it looks a bit darker than the car colour, i did only put one coat of laquer on as i didn't wana use up too much, is this why it's not quite matching.

    I should be spraying the spoiler next week, so just wanted to ask before i bodge it up.

    try spraying from a greater distance the further away the lighter the shade(not a vast difference though)
    as the silvers in the base stand up more
