Rev counter freezing

   RIGHT ok now this is probably a really dumb question but basically every morning getting in my car, once i switch the ignition the rev counter stays on like 3000 revs and doesnt move for about 15-20 mins of driving.
   
   now i know its not a massive problem but was just wondering what could be causing it and whether theres any long term effects to this happening?

   maybe its cold, put some hot air on it before asking it to show the revs
   
   havent heard of this problem before, not really sure why it would free itself up after 20 odd mins :|

   cheak the connections to it or move the needle yaself see if it sticks
