I had a service yesterday at a main dealer and when I got the car back I noticed that when the plugs were changed,a small black box(what looks like to be some sort of capacitar),has been damaged. It is wired in to the main loom which goes to the block on top of the plugs. It was bolted on to the plug block by a metal bracket, but this part has been riped out and now it has been cable tied to main loom itself.
The car is running fine and there simes to be no other problems, but, what is this part and should it be earthed through the metal bracket that was removed.

sounds like the supressor for noise for radio on coil pack. Not important really unless you get static through your radio.

Thats my thinking to,but I always thought those sort of surpressors were located near the alternator. If you look from the front of the car at the engine, its on the right hand-side of the large block that covers the spark plugs. Its got a single wire that comes out and dissappers into a fat loom of wires.
