Including parts and labour your looking in the region of £1k to cam and map a VTR.

Thats approx the same as a VTS conversion.

cams + fitting and timing + map most of the time mate
    so more like 1k

imo do the 8valve cam route
the insureance will probably be slightly cheaper on a cam than a non standard engine (lots of companies wont cover engine swaps)

    plus its something different

what i done and im camming my VTS after xmas

cammed vtr is alot more fun than a nearly stardard VTS.

or as said easier to get vts. cheaper

There is quite a considerable cost difference between "camming and mapping my car" and "having my car cammed and mapped"

The difference will be hundreds of pounds.

Look for a cheap cam if ya can. Got a cam, gearbox and h/gasket set (thats for a 1.0 lol) for £150. Quite proud of that.
Then been quoted £200 to fit it, and a new headgasket set, so thats essentially £250 for the cam and fitting. Not even gonna bother getting it mapped cause its only a baby cam, might do in the future though.
