im getting a decat exhaust system to go with this not sure which system yet but what do you guys think out of the raceland manifold and janspeed manifold

which will perform better on my car, also im getting the PT40K kent cam kit too if this helps you guys decide at all lol

    looking at maybe ordering today

Once again, lol, i have a janspeed on my mk 2 VTR

Free'd revs up nicely and you can tell a little bit of a difference when you first drive it.

    Plus, it sounds nice

    janspeed imo
    racelands are thiner metal
  4. #4
can you get a janspeed in the silver like the raceland manifold?
  5. #5
I dunno mate, mines second hand off here, but it only did a couple hundred miles, its gone a bit browny coloured though.
  6. #6
oh right cool mate, do you have an exhaust system with it aswell?
  7. #7
Is money not a problem like? raceland is cheaper i think
  8. #8
nah money isnt a problem right now, but as ive stated before i dont want to upgrade to vts i want to keep the vtr lump and just upgrade it

a mate of mine had a manifold decat exhaust system and k&n induction kit on his vts and it was spittin flames

do you know what may of been wrong with it to spit flames?
  11. #11
Maybe overfueling, might of had a flamer kit, lol
  12. #12
nah it wasnt a flamer kit it was all standard apart from them few mods i just stated

he was racin down a strip and changed gear and it spat flames

May have just been oil of petrol in the system a tiny bit and it lit going down the pipe etc.
  14. #14
ah right so anyway mate do you have an exhaust system with your manifold or just a manifold and rear box?
  15. #15
just seen your post above sorry! do you realise the difference with the manifold and complete system or not a lot?
  16. #16
Ermm, there was a slight difference, but i have a sports cat in my janspeed, and a centre box on my magnex
  17. #17
oh right i have the earlier engine it was on the changeover so i have the cat under the car so mine will be decatted do you think it will make much difference tho
  18. #18
sorry to hi jack but is ure janspeed mniafold and sports cat any good then mate??
  19. #19
aint the janspeed manifolds mild steel? i have seen the ones with the cat built in for the newer silvertop engines and wondered is they where any good? the only thing is that they dont tell you how many cells are in the cat, standered cats have 400 cells sport cats have 200 or 100 cells in them so they still keeps the mot tester happy but still deliver performance. the cat is built into the manifolds on the silver top engines the older black top engines has the cats underneath so make sure you dont get the silvertop manifold from janspeed other wise you will still be running a cat with a de-cat pipe. i would get the raceland manifold because they are stainless and bolt straight on to the black tops. racelands have a clearance problem around the oil filter on silver top engines and its a bit more work to fit them and they would work as a de-cat on a silver tops aswell. your mates vts will spit flames with a 4-2-1 manifold, de-cat and straight through exhaust hope this helps

i have a silvertop engine with the oil filter below the manifold but my cat is underneath the car so confused if i have a 90bhp or 98bhp one lol
  21. #21
early mk2's are 90 bhp silver tops with the cat under the car. the 98bhp models are the ones witht the oil filter problem. so unless you have the 98 and not the 90 you will have to relocate you oil filter. i have a w plate 90bhp mk2 vtr with a janspeed 4-2-1 and a sports cat with a supersprint center section and a janspeed backbox. not made a massive gain in power but had freed up a couple of extra gee gee's. check if yours is the 90 or 98 version vtr, look at the ecu if it has 1 plug you have the 90. if there are 3 plugs then you have the 98 and you will have to relocate the oil filter.

had a raceland on my vtr, installed it with a decat at the same time though. there was a lot of difference above 4k revs, pulled much better. Whatever manifold you get just buy a decat aswell or all the gases will be leaving the engine much faster but will still be restricted by the cat! also with a decat it could spit flames if its slightly rich as the cat generally stops fuel from the engine igniting!

my mate bought a raceland for his golf, none of the ports matched up, poor fit imo
