8v Power

After umming and arring about wether to convert the vtr to a s then camming it I ve been forced into a decsion i am staying 8v. Afte trying to flog my manifold to a mate on the 106OC I was paased on to a friend selling a nice TU 8v engine at first was skeptical untill I saw the dyno papers saying 172 ATF. After futher research into the engine found out it was built by G and G motorsport oringinaly for a super 1600 shell. Now my dilema what mangement and what route (turbo,tb or super) I am swaying towards throttle body's give me your thought's and heres the spec before I forget
    • big valve head thats been ported and polished
    • 285 cam with a custom profile
    • vernier cam pully
    • the block has been over bored to be a true 1600cc
    • high compression pistons with a set of total seal piston rings
    • bottom end has been lightend and balanced
Sully (sorry about my spelling just noticed how poor it was)

I did start going of on a long ramble but deleted it and will just say this. Go ask then the full spec of the engine including all work done and by who and what parts including there model/brand. If you can get a copy of the rolling road graph that would be good too. Also get the full spec of the engine when it ran that power even down to the weight oil used. Really we just need to know a lot more.

well i am off to GG motorsport tommorow (The people that orignialy built the engine) to go over mangement options and collect all invoices for the work carried out and dyno graph so post more details tommorow and I ll start a progress thread

personally gettin 172 on standard inlet on an 8v im going to stick my neck out and say its very hopeful imo.

the cam choice being used, and if it has high comp postons will mean going boost isnt really the best of ideas. you want low compression on a boosted lump not high

I was thinking the same as you Ryan. But I just assumed that it would have been on throttle bodies and stand alone. Even then though 170+ is a exceedingly good from such a mild cam. It will be good to see the full spec SaxoSully when you get it. I'm actually very interested in this my self.

SaxoSully - I'm making a VTR 1 -plug Predator at the moment, so that'll be available for you if you like.

As usual, it'll cost almost bugger-all fitted/PnP and mapped on your doorstep, so bear that in mind if you can

i would say to go tb's these sort or engines and chassis are not built to take the strain of a turbo or supercharger

Interesting do you have your own portable rolling road or do you mean you take it to your local rolling road?

We road map, however if the customer wishes to have the car put on the local dyno then thats fine by us.
