cd player and speakers

  1. #1
hey, i have a citroen saxo 1.1 p reg sx

i was wondering what kinda speakers and cd player i should get

id say the MAX id pay is £450 but under that is preferd. im only after door speakers atm (130mm) and ill possibly add a sub later on in the year.

i prefer quality over volume if that helps? but its always fun to go loud so midrange in that area i guess.

any help / suggestions would be much appreciated.

£450 is alot, you can get some real good kit for that, go for the sub, amp, headunit and components now IMO

    whats componants? lol
  4. #4
    door speakers...

ok well if i drop it down a bit, lets say 250? its a old car and i doubt ill have it for over a year. just wana get some kinda respectable set up in there, not 5w or whatever wattage those stock speakers are, either way they are crap

i was thinking of this... for speakers.

with door speakers you want to go for components rather than coaxials, the ones you have linked to are coaxials

i would personally go for one of these depending on how much you wanna spend

can get the jbl's cheaper on ebay

i got the JBL ones off ebay for £30 like grant said, there real good!

where would i put the tweeters?
  13. #13
i have this problem at the moment, gonna drill holes in the door cards for the bracket they give you in the kit
  14. #14
thats to much effort, i don't really want to do any hard mods, just wana get new kit that i can install and be happy. not having to worry about drilling holes in my car :|
  15. #15
well you dont have to, just have them lying in the door
  16. #16
that would be shoddy , why is it best to get component over coax?
  17. #17
    found this :

    components or coaxials?

    components

pros - Components allow you to position the drivers separately and more carefully, which will give you greater control over imaging. Try to keep the mid and tweeter as close together as possible - this will make the two drivers sound more like a single speaker, and preferably in the same plane (pointing in the same direction). If your standard speaker locations are very low down in the car you can place the tweeters higher up to lift the sound stage.

cons - Components require more work to install as you will have to mount the tweeters separately, and most component kits also have separate crossovers. There is often very limited space to locate the crossovers and they require far more wiring. Components also require more power to drive them as there are 2 pairs of drivers and the crossovers also soak up quite a bit of power. Therefore to get the best results you will need to add an external amplifier.

coaxials pros - Coaxials are much simpler to install, usually just a case of removing the original speaker and screwing the new one in it's place. The two drivers are in exactly the same place therefore not separating the sound source. Coaxials are perfect for rear speakers as imaging is not so important. A high power head-unit normally provides enough power to adequately drive a pair of coaxials, therefore no separate amplifier is necessary.

cons - Tweeters cannot be moved therefore the imaging is restricted by the location, if the speaker location is low in the front door (as most cars are) the sound stage will be fairly low - We have not yet come across anybody with ears in their feet!!

it makes a point about ears in feet

head unit looks good mate, preety much the same as mine. alpine make pretty decent units imo and at a pretty good price

its got two preouts which means you can run two amps with seperate signals which is good

as for the door speakers i would definately go for components, ive had both and components sound sooo much better, the tweeter brings the sound staging up higher so that not all of the noise is being thrown at you feet, there not hard to install.

all i did when i done mine was drill a small hole in the doorcard then use a craft knife to gradually make the whole bigger untill the tweeter pod sinks in, woofer goes into the standard mounting point and the crossover i mounted in the door pocket but you can mount it anywhere tbh
  20. #20
hmm , well i wouldent know where to start about wiring up the tweeter :/ if there is any guides on the forum could you link me to them?
  21. #21
are you planning on running them with an amp or just off the headunit?
  22. #22
just of the head unit for now.
  23. #23
not sure if theres any guides but you really dont need one

in the box you will get the woofer, tweeter and crossover

on the crossover you will have tweeter output, woofer output and main signal input

once you have remover the standard speaker you need to connect the wires that were going to this to the main siganl input on the crossover (they may need extending)

then just connect the tweeter to the tweeter output and woofer to the woofer outpud

so you have a budget of 450 quid but didnt wanna amp them

tbh mate 100 for amp, 100 for components, 100-120 for Headunit and the rest saved to cover wiring and jobs a good en...
  25. #25
that was a high estimate, id prefer to spend around 250

so for 250 what do you want just headunit and door speakers? maybe an amp?
  27. #27
well i dont think ill need an amp to be honest. so just a HU and speakers, obviously under 250 would be great
  28. #28
would be better posting in the ice section mate people know there shit in there
  29. #29
hmm, is there anyway i can get the topic moved atall?
  30. #30
pm a mod to get it moved i think

well if its just headunit and speakers i would go for that alpine and the jbl comps i suggested earlier, would defiately amp them before you get a sub though
  31. #31
yea ill defiantly get a amp when i get my sub sorted out. will be a while, i want to make sure i get the car running how i want it b4 adding the sub
  32. #32
im guna pop into halfords today on my lunch break, ill have a look, doubt ill buy anything from there just wana get a idea on stuff. if i do buy, ill post results! lol
  33. #33
i had a look in halfords, i think i know what im going to get, the speakers will be coax. and the hu, probably alpine. thing is i have run out of funds till 31st when i get paid

until then i have dodgy tape player and shitty speakers, AWESOME.
