Cams for a VTS questions..

would like some help with uprating cams but i dont really know much about them atm.
tried the search for info but couldnt find all the answers i needed..
basically want some more power out of the VTS and thinking about cams as ive been reading up on them and seem quite a good power increase considering the price.

basically i have no idea where to start with what cams and stuff, all like "708s" etc. and have no idea what the numbers mean and what type of cams give u what power increase u want.

i would ofcourse uprate my exhaust, manifold and some decent breathing mods first as the vts is completely standard atm.

and after thats all done, would it be as simple as fitting cams and getting a remap and thats it or is there more to it.
would i see much power increase with those mods or would i need more work etc.
im not looking for major power, just a little picker upper

how would the car idle and run after this and fuel economy, if any.

cheers for any answers, and as i said im pretty new to this.

    Cat 708 cams
Dastek Unichip ( Any piggy back management )
    Filter
    Manifold
    Exhaust system

My nana had that with a b&m quickshift and it pulled 159.6bhp 121ft lb torque.

Fuel economy is alright unless you have a heavy right foot then you will notice a major difference,

My car idled lumpy but it didnt sound bad it sounded like it was meant to do it, Nothing to worry about if it idles lumpy.

with my 708s it was down as 147bhp or there abouts, never been on other rr's so dont know an average

my fuel is great, 380 miles to a tank we got going to germany, yes motorway miles but with an xsi box and that being 75mph @ 4000rpm its high revs when you consider it was mainly 90mph plus all the way there

it idled fine, with the exhaust it sounds a bit louder on idle, but it would be different on standard exhaust. cuts out now and again, but then its down to how much it gets used, in germany never had any problems apart from when james got in for some reason.

you will be fine sticking in just cams, unless your milage is sky high, then id consider new springs and followers, may need to adjust other bits. also worth getting your cambelt done and water pump if you feel necessary. When mine were fitted we also did the head gasket.

the 708s are made by catcam, and im sure you can get them from places like qep and kamracing, there are also newmans phase3 which are the equivilent to the 708s.

Basically your looking at around 150bhp from them, worth it and great to drive

    cheers for the replies lads.
i would be happy with anything around 145/150 bhp.
on the 708s is the power in the low rev range or high?

would i need to uprade any engine parts or components? i.e. forged stuff etc.
i would do the cambelt and water pump just to be safe. the mileage is 48000 so would u recomend anything else?

the power will be further up as youll be revving more but a good mapper will spread the power so its not all at top. so your looking for a good spread where the figues dont mean as much as the drivibility. you could how 10bhp less and be quicker

you wont need forged stuff either. just new cambelt

the catcams use oem followers, retainers and springs so no need to uprate those. Same goes for the pistons etc.

Would be worth getting a remap though
