1/4 mile strip

  1. #1
i want to make my car quick for a 1/4 mile strip race with some mates

one has a std vts giving it the large that hes going to leave me for dust

the mods im going to do on my car are as follow...

    raceland 4-2-1 manifold
    raceland induction kit
    supersprint race exhaust system

im not sure on which cam to get out of the two...

    piper 270r - band: 1500-6500
    piper 285r - band: 2000-7000

i was looking at getting a 106 xsi gearbox

what do you think i will stand like against his vts?
  2. #2
    = a lot of moneyz
  3. #3
I'm no expert but I think it'd be pretty close.

98bhp as standard plus those mods should get you to vts (120bhp) standards. What about stripping out some of the weight too?
  4. #4
its my everday car mate dont really wanna strip anything out lol

so you dont think i could beat him on 1/4 mile with those mods?

    manifold
    supersprint race system
    raceland + green induction
    piper 270r/285r
    posible remap
    106 xsi gearbox
  5. #5
think you would beat him with the above mods if you get a remap to get the best performance out of your cam. but as said above it would be close. my opinion I think if you get a good start you would just beat him.

whats the big deal about beating him lol ?? just put his front tyres down , than go for the 1/4 mile race ftw

remap would probz make the difference tbh
  8. #8
because i wana shut him up for giving it the large that hes going to beat me and leave me for dust lol

but isnt just that i just want mine to be quick

is there any other mods you can think of without really going deep into it
  9. #9
well if your a shit driver you will have no chance, you can have a "fast/quick" car, but its all down to the driver imoa
  10. #10
    for that price
    vts engine

    you will be keeping up
and he doesnt need to know about the conversion
    add bit more on it
    decat and mani
    ull beat him
  11. #11
yeah im an okish driver imo i do racing every other weekend at mildenhall and combe valey well did do i dont nemore

i want to keep it a vtr mate dont want to do a engine change... not at the moment anyway

unless i can get it done for £500 LOL
  12. #12
carnt you strip most of it then just wack the interior back in after?
  13. #13
how much could i pick up a vts engine + wiring for?
  14. #14
    and ecu obv lol
  15. #15
would i be better off getting a vts lump with the 106 xsi box?
  16. #16
you can still strip some things out like the spare tyre, and aything you have in the boot. you could take the back setas out then put them back in, takes no time at all. you could heat wrap the manifold that aways gets that little bit extra. i think you would blow him away with them mods easy. the cam will gain you quite a bit if properley remapped. good luck anyway mate

Engine Conversion is usually around 400 for fitting. And an engine can be got for 200 - 600 depending on condition.

The VTR will never be as quick as the VTS on the 1/4 without a remap as the VTS has those few extra RPMS.

Imo id get the R completely stripped, a fibreglass bonnet & boot, raceland manifold and ported throttle body.

Ported TB is the only mod ive ever had under 100 quid thats made a noticeable diff - i got it from spencercammedVTS for about £30 - 40 iirc.

When i swapped my bonnet and boot, and after stripping, my R felt a hell of a lot quicker, and it still had standard heavy seats in.

Never heard anyone say a bad thing about fitting a manifold.

And that little lot should come to around abouts £500. And i recommend the lighter body parts over camming the R engine for two reasons number 1 because you will nodoubt get a VTS conv in the long so it will be dead money. And number 2 you have to remap it for it to really be dialled in which brings the grand total neer enough the S conv.

with a cam and remap with the breathing mods youll be close to his power
the vtr is slightly lighter (due to the engine block being alloy on iron)
with the xsi box you should be able to get ahead of him
i would say strip some unessecary parts like the spare wheel and heat sheilds ect that he cant see you will improve your chances
however it does depend who gets the best hook up off the mark and manages the best shifts as the difference wont be much
  19. #19
    Decent rubber as well!
  20. #20
what about some throttle bodies ontop!
  21. #21
best option is to vts it mate buy a crashed vts for 500 quid get the motor and all bits to do the conversion then sell the vts for bits and you will get a engine very cheeply jobs a good'en
  22. #22
Best thing to do is as Ste said, make the little thing light!

Strip it all out on the day - you can put it all back again.

Practice your starts on a private stretch of road and get some decent tyres.

Get your mate to carry all your tools, jack, jerry cans in his boot and make sure he fills up with diesel before you set off.

That should see you beat him

£900 for the lot from me, thread in sig with spec of engine
  24. #24
find a s2 rallye head, they can take a much wilder cam if you want to stay 8v, 140bhp+ is easy to achieve...
  25. #25
if your not a dreamer cams and tbs are like 2k? what i would do has already been said, strip it, rubber, decat mani.
  26. #26
id like to keep it a vtr to be honest and just build up on it
  27. #27
Looks like you've been attacked by the "drop in a VTS lump" copy and paste brigade.

lol as i said mate id like to keep it a vtr and build up on it
  29. #29
Same as what I'd like to do, I've only got a 1.4 right now but plan on putting in a VTR next summer and then getting more power out of that
  30. #30
you will put the vtr in, ask for advice then they will asy put a vts in LOL

just orderd my raceland 4-2-1 manifold today, told it should be here monday or tuesday
  31. #31
I think with the mods you have up top you should beat him tbh, Strip out things you dont need on the day including spare tire!

    Spray wd40 on his tires

    Jobs a goodun

Edit drop a 2.5 T from a focus ST in it that will win you

haha yeah I can see that coming, loads of good advice on here and I know the VTS will give more power than the VTR, but I'm sure some people just say it for the sake of it.
  33. #33
i bet there are a few VTR's out there that will outrun some VTS's
  34. #34
Yeah definitely, there's plenty of vtr's on here that could beat vts's, I'd find that pretty rewarding to build up one of them.
