How to fit bonnet pins?

  1. #1
I want some bonnet pins as they look good and my bonet rattles like mad.
    How do you fit them?
I want some where there is the pin, a clip to go through the pin and maybe a circle plate of metal to go on the bonnet around the pin.
    How do they work?
Can someone explain or maybe draw a diagram on paint to show where each piece of the kit would go.
Do you need to drill holes in the bonnet?

    Thanks
    Nick

Did you really just ask that question?

Mount the pins, slam the bonnet really hard. Job done, down pub for pint.

    Seriously now.

    Mount pins

Put tip ex on the end of the pins

Lower the bonnet so it just touches the tipex

Drill hole where the tip ex is.

    ^^^ LMAO.
Yes you will need to brill the bonnet fella, the pins go through the bonnet and then a catch secure them in place.

When I fitted pins on my saxo I used some existing hole in the engine bay, they needed enlarging a little to allow the pins to fit, once that was done the pins are held in place by to nuts on each side of the thread, so when they are tightened together the pin the bonnet pin to the car.
Once that is done you need to carefully mark up the place in the bonnet you will be drilling, then drill, then fit the top metal part, some are round some shaped like a push bike saddle, these are usually held in place by more screws, but i used bathroom sealant also as i wanted a really flush finish. Thats it.
Basically you'll have 2 parts to the bonnet pin, the pin which is a bolt with a funny end (kinda like a big needle with a thread on it) and the catch which goes on top of the bonnet and holds the pin in place. It's fairly easy but if your not sure get a workshop to do it, it should not cost too much.

there is a good guide in this months pfc.....

or you can use the original mounting points for your bonnet to the bay...
when you have mounted the pins put something on the top of the pin which will mark the bonnet.. ie paint or borrow some nail varnish then place the bonnet on top. then you can drill the mark for the pins then you need three self tapping screws for the lock mechanism

Also if your bonnet rattles have you looked at the catch to see if you can tighten it to stop the rattle? Might be easier that drilling into your bonnet?

there bonnet pins, but a proper sool design. you have to cut a pear shape hole in your bonnet then the catches mount flush on the bonnet, they have a wee flap you lift up to lock and unlock the bonnet. i think ive got a spare set in the garage left over from my viva if any one is interested
