Spraying bump strips?

   Some of the bump strips on my sax are deeply scratched and dull. I have used black on black and it did bring them up nicely but not to the standard i was hoping for.
   
   I was thinking to sand them down with 1200 grit paper, use some filler on the scratches and then primer and paint them. Would i need lacquer? and what color black would you guys recommend?
   
   Any info appreciated.
