Another New Saxo Owner Who wants some styling advice :-)

  1. #1
Ok so i have had my car for about a month now and the novelty of running a stock saxo has fully worn off!

So today i went out and bought some New rear lights and an induction kit which iv fitted and all work pretty fine only problem now is that the modding bug has full hit and now i wanna buy a whole heap of stuff more...

only thing is im not sure what....

below i have added a few pics of the car to give you an idea of what it looks like atm...

any Realistic ideas welcome....im considering the wheels and lowering as my next move...

    cheers people

on the front just need new springs you can pick these up on ebay for about £40 but the back is a bit harder you need to take out the torsion bars ect ect
    hope that helps matey.

i think lowerd with i nice set of wheels mirror caps jobs a gooden have a look on some peoples progress threads to get some idears
  11. #11
Lowering as a priority and get rid of those lights/!
  12. #12
    black wheels maybe?
    lowering
    you need springs on front
but on back it is a torsion bar
and will need lowering by that.

t cut them rear badges to

    have fun

I brought my VTS with lex-arse lights, fortunately they are almost the same color as the car so not that noticable!
Gonna swap them for or buy some std lights and get them sprayed the body color, which is a silver/blue.
I agree with most, lose the lights or tint them to hide them if they were a prezzie...
VT kit recommended, I would say its not a VTR or VTS so buy some after market alloys and make the car look a bit individual!
  14. #14
Do you think lowering and riding the steelies if I painted hen up would look shit??
  15. #15
Why's everyone layin into him about the lights? If he likes them then thats his decision. Not saying you can't afford expensive lights and so on btw here Chris but some people are on a tight budget with modifying and lexus lights are cheap and easy to get hold of. If you like them mate, keep them

how come your wheels are four stud?

Can someone please explain to me the whole 3 stud/4 stud deal. Mines 3 stud and I believe most flat arches are, but ive seen a few around with 4 studs . ideally i'd just like to get some VTS alloys and then drop it 40mm. But im stuck with 3 studs dammit.

Hey Chris car looks clean, just do some subtle but good mods that are not too costy, like t cut rear badges black, change aerial for 206 gti aerial, smoked headlights, and if you can afford get vtr for about £100.00 or vts for £150.00-£200.00 or paint your steelies, will look better then hub caps,

also are you in Farnborough surrey, or Farnborough hampshire

1st if you like the lights keep them, your not modding for other people your doing it for your self... though i would ether keep them standard or go for what everyone has said smoked jewls. anyway on to the modding.
    - Get your self a nice set of alloys 15" or 16", dont go putting on 17" or 18"s will handle like a horse on ice and your need arch work done.

Get it lowered. you would need to buy some lowering springs which are quite easy to fit if you know a bit about cars. these only lower the front. at the rear is a trosion bar which prob would be easier if a garage did that.
If you've got lots of cash then buy some front & rear shock as well. you dont need these to lower the look of the car but it will improve handeling.

    - Get rid of that induction kit & buy an inclosed one. (just my oppion)

    - Exhaust system would make it sound nice. depends what engine is it tbh, no point doing loads of performace mods if its a 1.1 or 1.4.

Other small things you could do.

    New arial
    new fuel cap
    new mirrors
    de-badge
    mesh grill
    ext...

you could tart your engine bay up , there will be a guide in the car cleaning section on how to clean it first, then re-paint your cam cover black or if you think you are going for a scheme, then any colour you want - mind it has to be high temp - paint you break callipers, stuff from halfords is reasonbley cheap, if you like the lights keep them and the aeirel (sp) fold it down more and it wont look like a dodgem, lol thats what we done on our saxo!!!

3 stud alloys this site shows a small selection

    http://www.tyresave.co.uk/alloy3st.html

if thats what you looking to do!!!

    hope this helps!!!!

Is it me or does this car now have 2 air filters?

If your on a budget, theres many good modifications that you can do for the price of your own time. Thinks like colour coding and meshing your grille, smoking your head lights, t-cutting your badges. Just generally cleaning up works well too. I put mirror caps on my old 1.1 and that made a difference to the apperance

Theres various styling guides in the stickies at the top of the styling and interior section to give you ideas and how to's

Make a progress thread of how your car changes too its cool to see your car change as you add and remove bits .

he might have taken out the air filter on the orignal box !!!????

First thing i would do is find some nice and cheap VTS alloys, and have a black on black theme. Lower the torsion bar and find some nice new springs. Great start!
  26. #26
for lowering the torsion bar on the back theres a how to guide if your going to do it yourself other wise take it to a garage...
    and tloose the light matey...gash

Save it towards a VTR/S when you have some NCB dont let it burn a hole in your pocket and waste it

    thanks for that :-)

what would be the difference between the induction kits? (closed and the one i have currently)

i was planning on getting some springs and fitting them at the front could you recommend any springs....

that small list you provided is quite a good too as thats fairly inexpensive..

its a 1 litre engine fairly pokey i know!

yer im going off the idea of the lights as well
  31. #31
iff youve got a grand to spend then, lower it, you need springs like this
then get a nice set of alloys, and go from there

oh and ive got a 1.1 with 4 stud alloys mines an 02 though so may be related to age?
  32. #32
I agree with most, Lose the Lexus lights! Get some VTR or VTS alloys, Lower it, Nice pipe not one you climb up lol Give the engine bay a real gud Clean etc just keep it sutle....

ive a lovely set of vtr (4stud) alloys for sale lol!!!!!!!!
  34. #34
    IMO

i would keep it clean and do subtle mods like induction kit and lights.
dont bother lowering. get your years no claims and then you can take the lights and induction off easy and put it on a vtr or vts!
  35. #35
To be fair, if your like me, and not bothered by getting a VTR or VTS (Such as if your going to uni and won't use it much thereafter) then get a VT body kit or something.
  36. #36
ive got a black 1.1 and so far ive mine has:

    smoked rear lights
    sprayed interior parts
    cut ariel down
    vtr alloys
    painted front chevrons
DTM mirrors but may get mirror caps for standard

the vtr alloys look great and were stupidly cheap id recomoned vtr alloys and lower it
