Wilwood 4 pot fitment

  1. #1
I am after a set of Wilwood 4 pots for my VTS turbo project but am not really in the position to pay out full price, or indeed the group buy price (which has now ended anyway). So, I have a few questions about buying second hand.

    1. There are always wildwood callipers cropping up on ebay but im not sure if they would be of any use to me. If I buy the wildwood callipers (which I gather are standard items – albeit different sizes for different discs), what would I need to make them fit on my saxo?

    2. I don’t want to be making up custom brackets etc so I was wondering if there are saxo / 106 calliper carriers etc that I can buy direct from wildwood? If this is true, how much are they? I spose what I am really asking is, if I was to buy the complete brake setup from wilwood, what is it that makes them tied down to saxo’s – is it just the carrier or is it the whole calliper?

I already have braided hoses made up ready for wildwood callipers and I can source the discs, so my only concern is the calliper and their fitment to the car. If anyone can shed any light (detailed pics would be helpful), it would be most appreciated and probably helpful to others who are thinking the same as me!

    Cheers

Rite first off you can get carriers from rally design to fir dynalite and midilite calipers to saxos but there is a few different caliper types. I got a set of dynalites for saxo off a bmw and could not get disks with the right offset for them so sold them on and ended up just getting brand new set up..

Your brake lines you have already made will have to have one end standard metric size and other end imperial to fit the willwoods.

I managed to find a set on ebay crop up mate when the group buy was on! I sat and waited till the end and was the only one to bid, at a amazing price of £275 plus £10 postage. They arrived and they were brand spanking new! Disks still in anti rust bag etc etc....

if you keep your eye out there will be a set crop up matey

The fitting brackets, either make some, or get them off rally design

Just the carrier, no standard carriers work

Need to get the right offset discs to fit behind VTS wheels, thats if your running VTS wheels. As well as the right offset to fit the hub, if the offsets out a bit as on richie2104vtr's car the VTS wheels dont fit, mine do

Far as i am aware calipers are all the same its just the carriers.

You will see after a while you will struggle to meet the group buy price second hand, thats why i did it.

    Pads (roughly £35)
Discs (rally designs with discount were £55 each)
    Brackets (iirc £45)
2nd Hand calipers (cheapest i seen go for £212)

    Total = £402
    Group Buy Price = £412

I was in exactly the same position as you, then it got to a point and i thought fuck it, although it doesnt hurt as much paying bit by bit and building the kit up.

Only way your going to save loads is buy contineously watching ebay, i did it for months and months and got sick of it for the sake of £50 or so which your going to save.

Hope my other answers helped you out.

Do you know what offset discs I would need if I was to go down the 2nd hand route? Also, whats the difference between radial and lug callipers? I notice the Rally Designs brake kit for saxo’s are Radial type but I don’t know what it means or how I can tell the difference between radial and lug type callipers?

Obviously need to get the bells but that wouldnt be a problem once i know the correct offset.

i looked at them mate, thats what made me finally decide to go through with the group buy, as by the time you get the brackets discs and pads it will work out more.

Personally i would leave them, calipers a fair bit different to the ones i just bought.

I bought these from Gabbastard on here but never fitted them as they require the bells to be made up to fit a saxo/106 or whatever strut you want. I had a quote from Compbrake and 3G Brakes for under £100 the pair so easy enough to get hold of. Green stuff pads included as well as all bolts etc. These are super leight weight ali calipers with awesome stopping cababilities.
Thats what he said ^^^. As to why you would need to get bells made up for them instead of buying them off the shelf i dont know, will ask him when he replies to my other PM
