Re-spray on rear morette lights?

   Bought some morette lights for my old furio in posi blue but now have a black vtr, wana put them on my new car but obv wana spray them. Can i just sand them down with a normal piece of sanding paper and them spray them with saxo black spray or shud i prime them etc and use special sanding stuff??

   Sand Down to bare plastic
   
   Spray with primer and make sure all is smooth and there are no imperfections
   
   Apply LIGHT coats of the desired colour
   
   and then lacquer
