Is it me or are the standard break's really.......

  1. #1
......not that good! I can see why people upgrade the breaks, i remember on my dads focus zetec the breaks were pretty immense, and compared to driving the saxo, it feels as if the breaks aren't very good at high-speeds.

What do other people think of this?
  2. #2
I have to agree they are not the best thats why i changed my front brakes for something better

sort of, as they have ABS and rear disks do make a small but noticable difference. But front brake wise, theyre identical just you dont have ABS.

Ahh right! So i'm best off lookin at whats been said above then. To get rear disks i'd need the whole axel? I'm such a nooob.
  13. #13
yes the are thats why i got me some wilwoods
  14. #14
I quickly got some GTi-6 brakes, soon after i got the vts, my foot was on the floor with the brake more than the throttle.

bensambrook your better of getting a 266mm setup for the front, and leaving the rear as is. That will make more of an improvement.

Someone near me had a zx estate that was going to the scrap so i took the brakes off that as it had vented discs and were bigger and better than what I had and they fitted straight on I aslo changed the discs and pads or better ones
  19. #19
They are pretty wank aren't they.

Just bought myself some 306 GTi ones. Mucho better.....i hope
  20. #20

mine are on, not bled them properly so there not too good haha
  22. #22
I was wondering if you had em on yet! Good to hear though mate.

Theres a cunt load of pedal travel with mine like, deffo bled right, think it's due to me undoing the brake bar when I thought I had to take off the servo to reach the abs servo thing. eeep
  23. #23
I'm still learning. And i couldn't believe the difference between my breaks and my instructors. In his 207!

And my Breaks are new, lol!
  24. #24
    my brakes are proper sponge!

dunno why this is, but when your doing more than 30 they dont seem to dont much unless you slam your foot on the floor.

im too lazy to get it sorted tho as they do stop you eventually
  25. #25
yea i noticed that they are absolutely pants! i think the first non-cosmetic mod im gonna do its either brakes or add a speedo!
  26. #26
i got some gti-6 front brakes with drilled and grooved discs they are lush! got them for a steal too
  27. #27
i lol'd @ my s brakes went a brought some gti-6's never fitted them then sold the car lol
  28. #28
    I also run a 266mm setup.

Can't fault it and i got them at a bargain of £80 delivered with new disks and pads!

mine are gradually bedding in, nearly went through the window on the motorway earlier.
  30. #30
    there pants tbh
    get some of these!!!

    on a seriose note
    eithe 206 gti 266mm conversion
or the 283s on a gti6/berlingo van do the job

both of the above need a small part griniding off
but other than that they drop straight on

fine tbh, there is some but used to it off my 266mm but i need to properly bleed them yet, just need to get my rear wheels off.
Fit some new discs to the rear, and also braided lines.

Then fully bleed the system properly.
  33. #33
maybe I just never bled em properly lol

Will give em another go on the weekend like
  34. #34
least your part of the 4pot crew
  35. #35
just a little trick i found to improve pedal feel guys

in the bay on the firewall is the bit were the servo rod connects to you can adjust
i pulled mine up a little to effectively lift the pedal (but it doesnt come higher up like)
  36. #36
thats what I was planning on doing this weekend but couldn't be arsed lol
  37. #37
will give it a try, cant find the cable for my camera, mine are fecking tight to the wheel like lol

    4pots yar!

haha they were when i put 15s on
    got 16s there

heres 1 with my origonal track rims lol

    hijack ftw
  39. #39
car doesnt have to have to go on track to have better brakes tbh, even people who do get them purely for track only go on 5 times a year on average

i purely got them to make me feel more safe, saved my bacon a few times, ie today, paddy

that and what im planning on doing will be needing them, watch the progress thread
  40. #40
I agree, it is for my safety, i don't trust my breaks for shit!
