I hear what people are saying about the turbo heating the air up, but surely its common sense to assume that the cooler the air entering the turbo, the cooler the air will be leaving it before it hits the i/c?
Its obvious that the turbo will heat the air up, but if you start off with the coolest air possible (i.e coming in from outside of the engine bay), its better than having a cone filter just stuck anywhere with a cold air pipe coming from the grille etc???
I know its not necessarily going to drop the intake temps by a massive amount, but because i am in the position to carry out research and development, i might as well go for the setup which gives the best performance, albeit marginal! At the end of the day, its small gains which make your car just that bit better than one which has a 'run of the mill' setup, and also gives it a customised 'one off' look, which is what a turbo conversion is all about.
My only concern with enclosed induction filters is that the air flow may be restricted, however, i am hoping to get answers from PiperCross about that so i can make a decision.
