Saxo VTS ECU - Great

  1. #1
    Hi there,

    Ive got a mk2 vts 2001

Car went to citroen yesterday, Phoned them today and they have told me my ecu is fried, Asked them to price me a new ecu and they told me 535 pounds plus vat?

    WTF?

Is there anyway i can buy another ecu and just plug it in? and away i go? Or do i actually have to pay this fucking ridiculous price?!

Any help on what to do is appreciated..

Think you could use another 3 plug VTS ecu from a scrapped car. Not sure whats involved in swapping ECUs over like that, might need the immobiliser etc swapped too?

Are you 1 or 3 plug ECU mate?

    PM me

Basically all im looking for now is confirmation that another 3 plug ecu would ''plug n play''... or would this need to be bought, then taken to citroen for them to fit and do other required things?

I pm'ed you luthor, Thanks for the help guys

    will that work?

2nd hand ECU would cost about £50 - £150 i think. I dont know what steps you would have to take if the ECU was from a crashed car, although from experience it seems like the ECU has no internal battery and thus no memory of its previous life.

Might need the immobiliser but im sure someone on here can confirm that, i think if the ECU moves house, the immobiliser has to accompany it or it locks itself, if its locked then you need to send it off to be unlocked, there are a few companies who will do this for less than £100 though i think. Not citroen anyway!

One worrying thought is that if the ECU fried, maybe its something to do with your wiring loom?

    Phoned citroen - IAW.48P2.80

That is the code on my ecu

speak to gmc, citroen told me mine wasnt even designed for my car, i asked them how this could be possible, and how i have had no problems with it if its not for car. for a laugh i asked how much it would be and was told 700 plus vat. i spoke to gmc also about it and they told me they could get them for around 200 plus vat.

loom in my car was fried at certain points so that caused problems, still have my ecu

Phoned some company off ebay and they matched my part number and quoted me:

    £239.58p

For a new ecu, This seems pretty reasonable so i might go ahead and purchase it, Arrive at citroen, Plug it in myself and drive home lol

Yes the ECU is plug and play, you will probably need to unlock it. Drop ricky p a PM he might be able to sell you an unlocked one. Hes a french car tuning specialist.

    Yo,

Just phoned GMC ( fucking legends they are so helpful! )

And explained my situation, Now the guy i spoke to said how do they know it needs an ecu?

Cause i dont have my 4 digit transponder code, So they couldnt of checked this as they are charged from citroen for aqquiring the code? So they havent checked the transponder box, or the circle around the key ( has an ariel inside it? not sure? )

So first thing tomorrow ill be phoning citroen and asking what exactly have they tried doing? And can they guarantee me 100% that if i buy a new ecu will it work? or will i need this 4 digit transponder key

Also for that ecu on eBay do i need the transponder key? or is it a case of plug and play, GMC said some ecu's only rev to 3500-4000rpm as they need this code

    Im so confused

Thats what an unlocked ecu avoids, you can get rid of the transponder and use the same key so you dont need the ignition barel and key from the car the ECU came from.

The barel has a ring thing that picks up the key assigned to that car, so unlocking the ECU stops this.

I dont have any credit in my phone though you can phone me if you can? only numbers i got given are

    ECU: IAW.48P2.80

    And this code: - 193833

And gmc quoted me the same price as eBay for an ecu but GMC told me i would NEED to take it to pug or citroen to get the transponder code put in?

Im phoning citroen first thing and asking them how they know its the ecu lol

i'll get a price for you in the morning, and can talk you through fitting etc so you dont need to get it coded in.
