as i was led to belive it was a black top 90hp, but it has space for coil pack to the right of the head but it has the coil pack on the spark plugs

i think it might be a border line silver top its got the black top oil filter and carnt see if its a 3 plug or 1 plug ecu black tops have 1 plug alot of mk2 99-2000 modles are border line on the change over to single plug to the newer 3 plug ecu. i would say its a 98 bhp 3 plug ecu engine

Single plug 90bhp is my guess - is it the original engine?
The location of the dipstick and the fact theres no lambda on the top of the mani heatshield makes me think its a early silvertop.

and yes they did exist, from 98 on.
Revised rockers/tappets to make them less noisy
