Painting the old rocker cover

Can you paint the silver top rocker cover with the same colour paint as your car, even if its not high temp paint?
And whats the best way to get the rust off?
    Thanks very much

hammerite ftw seriously, mine is smooth and no bubbles

p.s it was sanded dow to bare metal

to get rust off, elbow grease, and metal sandpaper ?? i needed to use a metal brush that fitted in a drill to get ridiculus (sp) thick rust off

did you need a new rubber seal?
  15. #15
Shouldnt do on a 8v unless it visably cracked or feels hard.

You are all ok, with a 16v you have to use sealant which has to dry for 24 hours before use

you dont have to use high temp paint, i just used a colour match paint from halfrauds.

Primer, paint and 3 coats of lacquer

Also i would renew the rocker gasket when your on, they dont cost much so might aswell do it tbh

you can get them from halfords only bout a tenner, probs same price at citreon

personally i wouldnt use hammerite and a brush, you will get a much much better finish with a spray can, not sure if i would use hammerite them, unsure what it would be like to spray something with that, ive painted my calipers with it and used a brush, i find its quite thick, so with spray it may be harder to get a good finish, as saxo89 has said, sand it back, primer it and then paint it, after that laquer, but i would leave it 24 hours after doing each one, then even a few days before putting it on car to make sure its fully hardend
