if you take off the door card and turn it over, you will see lots of plastic rivets on the back which have been melted on the end to stop them coming out. you will need to drill them out to separate the inner and outer part of the door card. once you have done this you can retrim them in any material you like using a suitable glue to hold the material in place. trim off any excess material then glue the outer and inner parts of the door card back together. its quite simple. just make sure you glue them back together very well otherwise they will come apart.

cheers mate is it simple to get the curve around where the arm rest is?
Saxperience Post WhoreJoined: Jul 2006Posts: 5387

depends what material you are using.
most leather interiors have a seam running along the arm rest part like mine did.
most other materials are usually ok though as they can be shaped easier than leather

only way to really tell is to give it a go.
i would have thought it would be ok.
personally i would start at the speaker end where its flat and work your way to the other end.

a good upholstry glue. dont use the stuff you can get in spray cans its not strong enough. when the heat gets to it it begins to peel off which will happen in the summer.

If you carefully take the old material off in 1 piece that`ll give you a template for the new material.

try and leave as muc of it on as possibe but yes the material part is heat staked onto the doorcard, just need to use a dremel to grind them down to release it

ok kool so.
take door card off then grind down all the plastic rivets. do i need to take the original material on or take that off... then fix the material to the door card and fix the two parts back together.

i would take material off mate, then there will be foam under that best way to get that off is wire brush on a drill to remove it all
trim it
then to put it back on use some clamps to get it tight against the plastic, then usea soldering iron and melt some plastic to form a lug to keep it in place, i used tie wraps to melt in

im thinking of doing this with faux leather once my shed is cleaned up going to get 1 rear door card from scrapyard to practice with been told that evo stick glue is good and a wallpaper border roler to help get the creases out is a good tool

Wouldnt say it was good for leather mate, use some strong contact adhesive
tried it yesterday with fake black leather and it didn't work, is harder than you think to be honest ! my advice is get a few quotes from the professionals ! Ben.
