Vtr Gearboxes

  1. #1
Right i've done a quick search and can't find anything on this. Which gearboxes will fit a Vtr such as Vts, 106, diesels and so on. Which ones would people recommend and for what reasons. Will I also need to change the driveshafts if i put a different models box in? Cheers boys n girls.

all gearboxes from 106/saxos fit each model as far as im aware, some ax boxes fit also

s1 rallye is going to improve your acceleration but if you do motorway miles its not going to be too good on them

xsi is again going to improve your acceleration, but not as much as the s1, better for motorway miles, still i sit at around 70 at 3800rpm

unsure what a vts box is like on a vtr

obviously you know what a vtr box is like on a vtr

cant comment on the other boxes, altho i think the ax gt is the same as the xsi box

Ok cheers, Does the xsi box fit with the standard clutch and driveshafts?

Anyone else have any experience with any other boxes?

    Thanks

    yes it does mate

danngti has an s1 box on his car, i believe rushy has a ax gt box on his car, jackman has a quiksilver box on his vts engine i believe greensaxo has a 1.1 on his vts engine, unsure on other boxes tho

How strong are the 1.1 boxes as opposed to Vtr's? Surely the ratios will be stupidly low.
I'm basically looking for a replacement as mines well and truly knackered so i'm just tryin to decide on price n availability.
  6. #6
not sure on the ratios tbh, pretty sure its the same as an s box, or simular at least, i cant remember if vtrs go well with the s boxes

diffs on the 1.1 are smaller, but if your just running standard vtr i cant see it being a problem at all

1.1 boxes on VTRs aint bad. Reasonably short, but not so short for it to be a problem on m'ways. I've done plenty of 1/4 miles and a trackday and not got any problems with the diff yet either, so you shouldn't have problems on the road.

quick silver box / 1.4 xsi box and you will notice it performance wise. We have a s1 box and its very short, which is basically a vts box with a higher f.d.

i do have a 1.1 box on my vts engine. it pulls well and motorways are fine. been on about 15 months! (which is good for me. lol) had the car off the clock with it too...

all the 'sport' boxs are the same, (vts/r, xsi, rallye) but with different final drives.

quicksilver box is different to a 1.4xsi box iirc same with the west coast box.

I didnt notice any difference between my 1.1 box and VTS box, noticed a very very small difference with teh S2/1.6 xsi box.

Only thing with teh 1.1 box i fekd the synchro's more or less straight away. Anything over 6500rpm it would crunch.

as williams said the xsi/gti/vts box's are the same ratio's but different final drives.

i think it was tbh, got another 5 out of them anyway for nowt, kept saying they took them off VTS's but they had 1.1 gearbox codes.

    Ive had the following boxes to my VTS Cammed engine;

VTS - Too long for me.
S1 - Great box, very short, lots of wheel spin in lower gears tho (1st an 2nd), only changed because i broke it
S2 - Currently on my car now, great box, little longer than the S1, not sure if thats a good thing atm, as its only been on for 3 days.

S2 is only fractionally different to a VTS box.

    order goes

    S1 Rallye Box
    1.4 xsi Box
    1.6xsi / S2 Rallye Box
    VTS
    VTR

    Ok cheers Peoples.
So the 1.1 box should hold up well enough in my Vtr, I just don't want to keep buying another every few months. I've also found a 106 diesel box from a 1994 for a decent price and looking at this thread http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=125615 the ratios are nearly the same bar 1st and second. Am I right that both will fit straight in with no problems with all the connections and that?
  17. #17
personally wouldnt stick a 1.1 box in, just get a VTS or s2/1.6 xsi box.

    Same sort of price anyway.
That will improve acceleration, or just stick a VTR box back on.

I think I'm gonna go with the diesel box, wil this fit ok with things like the speedo unit and such?
  19. #19
not sure if its the same for the citroen range, but when i had my RS turbo. we fitted a diesel box as the ford diesel boxes were stronger than the standard rs turbo one.
something to do with the torque and the loads they were designed to pull.
that was the in thing to do at the time, along with the 2L zetec bottom end lol good old days

knowing shitroen, they will all the the same lol.

    yes they fit the same.

not sure what the diesel box is like tbh.

Just get a VTR box, dont understand why you dont?

Probably an extra tenner or something.
  21. #21
Ok thanks, I've heard that the Diesels have different clutch so wasn't sure it would fit.
I'm having trouble finding a Vtr box so I'm trying to weigh up some other options hence the questions on them all plus looking at the ratios they aren't far off being the same anyways.

So whats the best for acceleration the S1 box? are the 1.1 boxs better for acceration or top end? im new to the citreon game
  23. #23
The 1.1 boxes are better than the VTR boxes for acceleration by a long way.
