universal turbo kit?? worth it ??

  1. #1
hey seen this kit on the internet is it worth the hassel or not? what the best aftermarket ecu too? also to upgrade the internals would i only need crankshaft conrods and pistons valves/springs? how do you lower the compression ?

    http://www.alxmic.com/uk_turbo_02.php

just asking guys and girls please help

Wouldn't recommend the kit think its been posted a couple of times
All the boosted lads will probbaly post all the exact reasons like the manifold issue and suitablt IC etc etc

better off making your own kit i bet its some crap xs power knock off
  4. #4
cheers see what more people say thanks
  5. #5
As above, could easily make your own kit, wouldn't bother with that one tbh
  6. #6
how do you go about making your own kit i know people say dont take short cuts well i dont want to but how do i get a diy one cheap ?
  7. #7
I am of the opinion that if you need to ask these questions I wouldn't try it. Don't want to sound harsh like.
  8. #8
i wont be putting it together my mates got a garage and deals with performance cars said he will fit it just wondering what parts do people tend to go for ?

    check out www.dp-engineering.nl
thats the only kit i would go for, its proven and works out to be an affordable kit with good quality gear. only thing they dont supply in the kit is the exhaust from down pipe back and the managment, injectors etc.

if you wanted to go for silly power, you need the forged low comp pistons and forged conrods, those along with the cranck are good for up to 350bhp before you start to get problems with them.
just a case of how far do you want to go.

dont forget a good clutch from helix or AP racing, better brakes etc.

    ^^^dp engineering are the daddies.
ill end up buying sme stuff from there im sure.

boz, they do their own vems pnp ecu wich saxodaffy has used. seems a fair price aswell.

yep, but dont come in the basic kit they sell.

i have been toying with the idea of jumping on the ferry from newcastle and taking the car to them lol
i love his car, that vid on youtube is class

oh i get you. good point. they should really do that tbh.

do it mate, they did a very very good job of saxodaffy's car. and all their projects seem a very high standard.

im a tight git and want to do it all myself (apart from mapping) but its taking a long time.

would be so much easier saying 'here are the keys, call me whens its done'
my lass would go scatty tho, its easy to lie about the cost of things in dribs and drabs, but she would spot the chuck missing out of the bank if i did that lol
  14. #14
haha nevermind. at least if you do it yourself and get them to map it and rectify any problems it wont cost anywhere near the full build amount??
  15. #15
yep, thats the ideal. plus i want to say ive done most of it myself.

she needs to be run as NA first, so i defo know everything is ok. then i will be fitting the turbo kit. got 99% of the bits now just a few bits and bobs needed and a load of spare time (fingers crossed, its coming up soon, just hope the weather will be kind to me) lol
  16. #16
good to hear progress is good..
at least if you run it nasp first things cant go bang big style.

ask if they have any jobs at your place lol...
  17. #17
lol i should start my own agency

work on the car has been slow mate, time is very limited.

but she is getting there. i really do need to update the thread with pics.
i will defo do it this week as long as work dont ring lol

the ideal is NA first, have the brakes all setup and suspension. do a track day or 2 will run her with the cams maybe?? not to sure

then, give the motor a full re-build. fit low comps and forged rods along with the turbo kit and all that good stuff.

really just want to get her started up and running. that will be the main thing lol

    but she is getting there

dave and pieter at dp are the best by far i couldnt prase them enough, i will be going bac over there in a couple of months to get my new project mapped 400+ horses here i come lol
  19. #19
400bhp? thats quite an impressive figure lol that will be a demon lol have you got a gearbox that will handle that? and brakes etc??
  20. #20
how much you look to spend on getting it to 400+ all in ?
  21. #21
400+ bhp will cost you a lot of money. One of the biggest problems is getting a gearbox that will cope. The engine will require forged internals as a minimum. Large volume baffled sump and baffled fuel tank. Pretty advanced engine management would be recommended to stop the thing lunching it self. You would be best to start looking at high flow heads and custom cam profiles as well. Over reliance on boost tends to equate to massive heat build up and huge stresses on the engine. Not to mention engine characteristics. All starts getting very complicated and huge costs.
  22. #22
you mean 400bhp? id say quite alot. seeing 300 is not easy lol
  23. #23
doesnt work best of going to Cituning or carworx or HOMEBREW
  24. #24
    ax racing.
all of the above is done just need to uprate turbo and get a be box with quaife and some tarox 6 pots on should be done
