Seized rear brakes on VTR.

While checking my rear brakes on my saxo I found them to be seized, now before I strip them fully down I'm going to buy some new pads as they looked buggered. Now I gather once I've done one it will all come clear to me how these brakes work!

Are there any methods which are best to strip the calipers down and get them working??

    cheers

    Cheers Scottyvtr,
Just gone thro the FAQ's and the guides on brakes, some usful information in them which I've taken on board.

But if anyone has any tips for when I do it, I would appreciate it.

you cant just push pistons back they have
    to be wound back in

Yeah I noticed that in the guide, I'm used to pushing pistons in on my other cars! Are there any tools which could aid in winding it back, or what does everyone else normally use??

use a screw driver across the piston and wind back clockwise
    whilst aplying pressure

well got me some pads for the rear for when I strip them down, sure I'll get them working again! just need some paint to do the caliper when it's off.

keep an eye on your brake fluid level. if your pads were worn right down then when you put new pads in the fluid may want to overflow.

i used a dropper to remove the excess fluid while my dad wound the piston back in

I finally got round to sorting this caliper, and it was the passenger side which was stuck, easy to do too, thanks for all the advise. One thing I did notice was it does look like some idiot had changed the drivers side rear pads but not the passenger, the drivers side looked newer than the passenger side and the passenger side was down to about 1.5/2mm of pad!! While the drivers side looked untouched!!

If the passenger side was stuck it would soon wear the pads out, wheras the other one was free so hardly any wear
