URGENT: Progressive Springs - which way up???

  1. #1
As per title, which way up do progressive springs need to be fitted on the struts?

    Thanks in advance

Put the lightest end towards the ground (the bit where the coils are furthest apart) unless the springs are made to fit the other way round of course.

The reason for this is that you want to keep the parts that move the most as light as possible to keep the inertia down so that they acceleate faster. The same theory as upside down forks on a bike... they don't weigh much more overall than non-upside down forks but the moving part is lighter, giving better handleing.

thats what I thought like. Although it was a semi educated guess at best as you want the softest parts moving first so would be the more spaced coils at the bottom due to being softer in my opinion.

Cheers for your help people. It was an urgent question because my mate was in the middle of lowering his 106 and he asked me the question - so i immediately posted on here but it took a while for anyone to respond. So he decided to put the harder (more compressed end) at the top, which is lucky as that is what people have been telling me ever since.
