Centre pipes

   I have a piper 3" backbox. If I got a centre pipe like a supersprint one would it be illegal? and would it fail an MOT for noise or because I got rid of anything???

   legally you need a cat for an mot
   
   but some cars will still pass emssions without one
   
   but most guys drop a cat in for mots and then decat once its passed

   cat is in the manifold on cars 2001 vtrs and after youd need a mani to decat.

   it depends some early mark2s were under car
   
   if it is cat in mani it will pass an mot with a supersprint on as you only need one box (the backbox) and a cat

   If you have a car with the cat in the manifold (which most mk2 VTRs do) then you will be alright with the race supersprint centre pipe.

   cool, i dont want a decat, but putting a center pipe on will make it louder right?
   where the heat sheild is i have like a metal box in the exhaust system. is that the cat? (i.e. does that mean my cat isnt in my mani?)
   so between the cat and the tail pipe do you have to have 1 box to pass an mot?

    you have a centre silencer in the exhaust I'd expect.

    if i get a centre pipe without a silencer and have my 3" backbox on will it be stupidly loud?

    just buy it, if its not loud enough, decat it and itll make it louder and most probably give you more rasp

    decats a mission cos for each MOT have to change manifold. and if i dont have an MOT then technically my insurance is void, and at only 17 i cant risk having void insurance
