Do forged pistons need forged rods?

   As title, i am looking at getting some low comp forged pistons for my project, but they do not come with the rods, so can i just use vts rods and uprated bearings? or will the rods bend, im looking for about 160-180bhp

   you can use forged pistons on OE rods.
   
   Personally if you are gonna rip it all up an extra £350-500 on rods isnt alot in the whole build.

   If you've got a VTR (or a JP4 lump), if you buy forged pistons you will need either forged rods or OE VTS rods.
   
   If you've got a VTS, you can stick with standard rods or go forged if you wish.
   
   
   The reason is the different fitment of the rods/pistons.
   
   
   Rods are really only needed for high revs (8k rpm+), or extreme amounts of power. Or alternatively to full proof your engine, and save you having to take everything apart again if you want to go more extreme in the future.
   
   
   Reason i've gone for forged rods is i need either them or OE VTS ones (due to using a JP4 lump) - OE VTS ones from Citreon will be even more expensive than forged, and ones from another engine i'd never know the history of. Going for forged i know they'll last the duration of the engine life.

   yeah i am using vtr lump, thats why i was thinking vts OE rods, so just to double check they will be ok for 160-180bh and a limmiter of 8k?
   
   if i do decide to go mad in the future, rebuilding the engine won be a problem, i enjoy it lol

   are you going boost.
   
   as NA 160-180 from a vtr engine is not that easy to get.

   gd has just moved on from a great 8v set up so deffo worth speaking to him.
   
   You wont need to rev to 8k with a supercharged set up anyway imo, they make good power low down, and have a good linear power delivery

   oh right, thanks for that, i will use the standard vts rods ive got in the garage then!

   If you have the cash to get forged rods or if they turn out being cheaper than OE rods than you may aswell get them..But i have read on a website by a chap who builds race TU engines that a rebuilt OE spec TU will take pretty much anything you want to throw at it..
