Important! : goin low!

  1. #1
i gt a vtr a few months ago and have decided 2 lower it!

bt nt sure how low i shoulg go or what springs are best?

any advice would be helpful thanks
  2. #2
dont go too low matey, it seems to wear the shite out of your stub pins on the rear beam and costs a canny bit to fix, twat to do as well.

i would just go 40mm tbh
  3. #3
as for springs, have a word with kam racing on here, he can sort you out with some
  4. #4
    40mm FTW
  5. #5
i reckon 60mm all round looks the nuts tbh
  6. #6
I also am lowering soon and want to go 40mm, whats the best springs i can get?
  7. #7
aye im also in this process can sumbody link me some springs + shockers, ill prefer 60mm tbh
  8. #8
    Newbies search button FTW
  9. #9
Try this site, loads of options for suspension on it!

    http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pag...product=425557
  10. #10
Sorry, meant to just link the site not suggesting that actual product, but I have heard avo kits are good!
  11. #11
best suspension depends on the use the car will get

you could go out and spend several hundred quid on pugsports and then realize there too hard for the road

I would suggest some decent shocks (like billie b8s) and something like some apex springs or maybe some light faulkners (around 150-160lb)
  12. #12
    so what springs drop 40mm?
  13. #13
There's far too many to say, try out that link and hoke around that site, or try a few of these,

    www.potn.co.uk
    www.europerformance.co.uk
    www.venommotorsport.com

theyre all pretty much the same but their prices may vary, just search for parts for your car and itll give you all the options! Hope that helps
  14. #14
Oh and id go for 60mm!
  15. #15
    I'd only go 30mm
    each to there own really
but like I say don't just buy expensive stuff and expect it to be good
I had eibach springs before n found them to be shit

tbh suspension is a fine art to get right
  16. #16
I would go for some of these if you’re after some good stuff.

Lowers 35mm but looks 40ish when settled. Good for road use and light track use.

    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufactu...prings-58.html
  17. #17
    depends what your after

    practicality? smooth ride?
    35-40mm

    looks?
    60mm and lower imo
  18. #18
yeh i just want it to handle well and dont wanna spend more them 100 quid for now, since ive just paid for the car nd need to sort me savings out (which wont happen with everything im looking to buy haha)
  19. #19
save and get a better set up. no point wasting good money
  20. #20
GMAX 35mm set up any good?
  21. #21
the dampers + springs set i mean
  22. #22
    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufactu...saxo-1119.html this set
  23. #23
for 100 quid you won't get dampers
    don't use just springs

just leave it for a couple months till you can afford the dampers too
  24. #24
yeh i meant just the springs, for now.
  25. #25
    I wouldn't use just springs
not only can it ruin the dampers

but it can make some adverse charecteristics from the car such as a bouncy ride as standard dampers cant keep the spring under controll

yea a lot of people do it

    but honestly it's not good
  26. #26
my god its nowt but doom and gloom from you haha.
  27. #27
try here aswell loads of stuff some of the prices are a bit dearer than some other prices but a good place to start

    http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/

ours is 50mm front 45mm rear!!!!

    its the truth tho mate

i had my old vtr 60mm front and back on standard shocks
it felt like there were no shocks at all, bangy as fook

    anyway

its upto you at the end of the day
  29. #29
Thanks for all the help and links, I've found a Gmax suspension kit that I think is fine but I'd like sum1 to give the OK that it will fit straight onto my Saxo (VTR 03 model) which is completely standard at the mo. heres the link, can anyone quickly tel me weather ill need to buy anything else for the kit to work or is everything I need included?

    http://www.potn.co.uk/p1250573.htm
  30. #30
id rather seem doom and gloom that advise ou to ruin your car mate lol

that kit doesnt look too bad tbh
similar to the budget spax kits (i ran a 200 quid kit on my 1.1 and it was pretty good)

    should do the job
wont be anything spectacular but wil be better than just springs
  31. #31
if you dont want to spend mega bucks then go for these

    http://www.potn.co.uk/p1322447.htm
  32. #32
so u recomend spax then?....ill go for this, as i want it to lower 60mm not 40mm. thx for the help, just one more thing tho, it says 96- does that mean only 1996 and lower?? cos mines an 03 model.

    Cheers, Ollie.
  33. #33
    http://www.potn.co.uk/p1322448.htm

    heres the link lol ^^
  34. #34
yeah that should fit i had the 40mm kit on my furio and that was a 2003

no reason why the 60mm wont fit

although there are better kits out there if you want to wait
  35. #35
im looking to buy another saxo when i sell my car, before i had it 60mm on the front and 80mm on the back, can u get 80mm or lower springs for the front? as i want to slam it more than my last 1, i aint fussed about handling just want it low, very low
  36. #36
with coilovers you can go low

but there a lot more than springs and shocks

lee_vtr1 is aroud 100mm down at the front on modded coilies
really its how but your wallet is and your imaginatio
  37. #37
    60-90 ftw!

see with a vw u can get 120mm adjustable coilovers for like 600£

i jus want it sittin very low with wide wheels and stretched tyres
  39. #39
yea for a vw were the chassis will accomodate that

on a saxo past about 90 you need to start notching the shell to give clearance

  41. #41

EDIT: Mines 60mm front, and at a guess 80 back. Maybe more. These are 15s btw.

  42. #42

yeh i keep seein it about still got my private plate on it i will get that back soon, its making me want another but more euro style this time, so it is possible to go 80mm all round on a set of 15's
  44. #44
ive seen 100 front 120 back on 15 inch rims mate
  45. #45
yeah mate go for the 40mm all round, should look sweet

do you no the bloke who owns it want to find out how he done it, see i want the stance look it dont look good wiv the back lower than the front but would be very nice to get the front down 100mm thats more like a vdub style which is wot im after, wide cambered wheels
  47. #47
yea i know him quite well

hes got modified coilovers with shortened springs (soon to be custom faulkners) and pugsport shortened inserts

below is his font ride height

also the rear is up to about 95mm now as it was on the stops before
    looks mint

camber on a saxo/106 is a no no mate the rear beam doesnt unless its collapsed
  48. #48
    This is mine, -60mm.

This kit, spax VSX kit. Cant really compare it to any other kit unfortunatly, but i like the way it handles.

Its abit bumpy on crap roads but im happy to put up with it.

see now thats the look im after, that looks real nice, my old saxo drove past me earlia and it must be 100 maybe 120mm at the back and looking at it now the springs have set in looks alot lower on the front aswel so think im gonna go 80mm on the front and 80 maybe 100mm on the back see how it looks, wots the smallest wheel can you fit over vtr brakes???
  50. #50
    yea it looks ace
i think the gmax coilies go 80mm so just get them
ive heard of 13s over the 247mm brakes but not seen it
my steelies caught but an alloy might clear
  51. #51
Ok thx Scott, im gonna go for them, but while were on the subject of helping newbies ....maybe you can recommend an induction kit thats on that sight aswell, I just wanne buy it all in one sweep, are K&N any good?

    Cheers, Ollie.
  52. #52
for induction you want an enclosed kit really
with a decent straight cold air feed itll do the job well

open filters (such as k&n) arent really reccomended
  53. #53
Cheers pal, im open to recommendations, especially if its something youve already done to your car, and by air flow do you mean a pipe from the front leading to the filter? if so are they easy to do?

    Cheers again,
    Ollie.
  54. #54
BMC CDA Mate, they are generally considered as the best for the saxo, look on the kam racing site on here and you get a discount for being with saxp, ill link you up if i can be arsed
  55. #55
    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/club-disc...tr-vts-48.html

    Thats a good one

    or this

    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufactu...o-vtr-167.html
  56. #56
either the bmc (i have 1)
or a raceland with a green filter (my mate has 1)

there both good the raceland wont need a cold air feed though
  57. #57
i think ill go for the Raceland one then mate, thats an easy fitment too isnt it?

    Cheers.
