filters question

right... I was under the impression through all my shitty sciencey engineering knowledge that panel filters out performed paper filters. Now Dadsayer and I were having a massdebate earlier and he's left we wondering whether my faith in the oil impregnated panel filter is misplaced.

For your knowledge, my father was an engine developer/designer and without smoking his tube he does know his stuff... apparently.

Anyway he claims he got some chappies to do some comparisons yonks and yonks ago, and they discovered

PAPER filters have a better flow efficiency than the Panel filters...

Can someone convince me otherwise? the more i think about it the more I'm starting to agree...

please don't post useless shit like 'mi car iz well fast wivowt a filtr' or some other shite.. Give me reasons or links to stuff which can clear this up once and for all!!

i heard the paper filters just have more restriction?
and they flow poorly and clog up quicker

and a panel filter alows a lot more air and dont clog up with dust etc as fast

ahhhhh yeah I forget about that man!!! ok so dadsayer is probably right on the paper filter being better initially then as it gets clogged it gets massively shitter.

    bingo. cheers man

Possibly with an old school carbed engine but can't imagine that would be the case with a modern engine.

I can imagine paper would filter out more but in doing so restrict the airflow

naaa he was a diesel engine designer man, so no carbs

Companies that make the performance panel filters will put money into researching and developing the best materials to allow the maximum amount of air to pass through them.

Back in the day it might have been normal paper filters, but now I'm sure the technology has developed and now companies are getting better products made.
