I have one of the OMP bolts in cages and wanted to trial fit it and mark where I want my door bars before I take it to the bodyshop to get the plates welded in. But I can't even get the front section inside the car. Any hints or tips?

#2take the front seats out?
If you havnt already that is.
when fitting a cage its best to have no interior in the car imo, -
#3strip everything out the car
seen a few guys think they have a dash dodger and they dont that can cause a few issues -
#5is it a dash dodger though??
if not then you wont as itll follow the a pilar all the way to the bottom of the screen and youll need the dash out and to trim it to get it to fit
if it is a dash dodger then you should be able to with a bit of manouvering -
#7best way to get it in the door is put the front leg through and roll the cage forward to get it to squeeze in
the hard part is the last leg really
we put my mates in his xsi the other night and even with 3 of us putting t in we struggled1 user thanked this post: -
#8Thats the part that I am stuck with. Guess I need a hand then. Cheers

#9yea there a pain
kinda glad my cage is fully unassembled lol
just means more fitting costs -
#10iirc all omp cages require the dash cutting. Mine certainly does. Also sunroof handle and courtesy light console needs removing to get it in. Headlining is a good thing to remove as well.
A ratchet strap comes in very useful to squeeze the legs together as well I found. Makes it a bit easier

#12Nope all old OMP cages such as the bolt in were made to be fitted with dash uncut.Quote:iirc all omp cages require the dash cutting. Mine certainly does. Also sunroof handle and courtesy light console needs removing to get it in. Headlining is a good thing to remove as well.

exibit A

You can fit the old type with the light console in place etc.
Best thing is to get rear section in the car first, then fit the front leg trough the open door first so the other dog is running parallel with the car iirc.
Then position it more upright once in the shell. -
#13easyest way to know if its a dash dodger btw is if it mounts to the rear arches, and if the feet dont have box sections to be welded in first
-
#14all OLD omp cages ryan
some new ones dont -
#16My bad

(assumed he has bought a brand new one
)

#17i saw you said old omp cagesQuote:see my post mate stop correcting something that doesnt need correcting

but i was just highlighting the old and saying some of the newer ones dont miss the dash
i wouldnt correct you mate you know more than me lol
was just highlighting the point -
#18it was because of a change in FIA regs iirc which is why the new cages have front legs that are closer to the A pillar, and therfore no longer dodgers of el dasherooo
-
#19yea i know lol
i dunno which he has (havent spotted him saying) so it might dodge
i just wanted to make sure he knew not all omps dodge it -
#21it has to be fitted by an fia certified fitter to get that iirc
-
#22i cut my hands putting mine in. tight as a nuns crutch
