master cylinder

    hi
my mk1 1.1 saxo(3 stud) failed its MOT last year due to the brakes being s**t
so a new caliper was fitted suprise suprise it failed agian this year due to s**t brakes and yet another caliper was fitted and it just scraped through the brake test as the discs are new pads are new its just had new calipers i think i need a new Master Cylinder as the brakes are geting worse
what i need to no is can i use a better master cylinder from a diffrent citreon that will be better than a replacment and is there such thing as BIG brake conversions on 3 studs without swaping strut for 4 stud hubs?
    thanks

you can, just try and get one that matches what you have eg 4 port or 2 ports. Although if you have a 2 port abs one, you can always T piece the lines from a 4 port one for example.

How is this not safe for work though?

if its a 4 port get a 406 coupe non abs one as thas a 23mm i have one and its mucho better!

    was wondering that myself cat??

i would say just get a 1.1 mc

if you put a bigger one on all you will achivev is making the brakes a lol 'sharper' ie they will bite earlier in the pedal stroke and if you stamp on it will more than likely just lock up

a few months back i saw someone saw something about a 3stud zx back in the day
but i think finding brakes off one of them will be like rocking horse shit tbh

it could be something simple like the brakes arent being bled properly (dunno whos doing it like)

on a 1.1? theres no need lol
Surely they should be telling you what is failing.

The brake lines havnt rusted and your not leaking fluid everywhere?
You bleed the brakes properly when fitting new calipers?
Take it new discs and pads all round? you let them bed in yet? every time i have fitted new brakes they have been shite for a good few miles.

There is NO need to upgrade the m/c.

What quality pads and disk are you useing?

    is the handbrake adjustd correctly?

and how is this nsfw? you do know that means not safe for work
  8. #8
Id say its NSFW cos of the starred language

as said no need to upgrade the mc imo

i think it was gav who posted up about the zx brakes alex, sophia_bush on here but i dont think that they are that easy to get hold of

i think he did it to get attention to the thread
swampy the handbrake will not affect the system as a 1.1 runs a cable handbrake setup so isnt anywere near the hydraulics

and yates it may wel have been gav actually yea
rocking horse shit sums up how common they will be lol

Nearly all cars run cable handbrakes
but if the adjusters on the rear drums aint set correctly the foot brake wont work well either.
  12. #12
stuff like vtr it pulls on a hydraulic lever and then that applies
were as the drums the cable is directly on the shoe so it doesnt
  13. #13
He has a 1.1 not vtr
    but doesnt matter either way
the cables have to be adjusted correctly, which in turn alters the setting position of the shoes/pads
If they arnt then they have to move the shoes/pads further up when applying the foot/handbrake

this in turn affects how each work

i know hes got a 1.1 thats what im saying it makes no difference on the drums
the only way it can be adjusted wrong its if its too tight the rear brakes will rub a bit
if its loose the handbrake wont work properly
other than that id doesnt matter on a the drums at all

the rears will have minimal to do with this i think anyway

tbh the master cylender call i think is about right
and just using a 1.1 m/c will be fine anything bigger will cause problems

Excess travel in the brake pedal?
