Raceland induction kit problems with Mk2 VTS

  1. #1
Ok decided to start a new thread about the raceland induction kit as although the one as a sticky on here is very useful its closed and cant be commented on or discussed.

Fitted my kit today but the bonnet doesnt close too well because the kit sits quite high due to the fact that I have a pipe running underneith the kit from what looks like a vacuum unit. Il put up some piccys and hopefully someone with a Mk2 VTS has already overcome this problem...?

Also wanted to fit a bigger battery but now cant cos the kit covers the remaining space in the battery holder

Here is a few piccys, pls advise if you know how to overcome this problem

It also catches on this wire type clip that seems to be keeping the radiator attached to the car?

My mk1 VTR was the same mate. I cut the radiator clips down a little shorter, knocked up a bracket and stuck it down. The silicon pipe provided wasnt long enough either, so i also had to extend it. Worth it though mate I just need to find a decent size silicone pipe for the breather hose.

The standard hose for the breather tube is perfect, see my pictures! Do you know what the circled bit is and how to overcome the problem? Im worried its gonna wear the top of the ind kit box due to rubbing on the bonnet... or rub the paint off the bonnet!?

Its different on my mk1 mate. The breather pipe needs to be longer, and i dont know what that is. lol. im no good with things like this mate. Plenty of people on here will be able to help im sure Good luck. Let me know what its like when its sorted

The picture with the item highlighted shows the EGR - many people have removed it, I myself have, you can search EGR and research.

Typed EGR in search and nothing came up which I find strange! maybe site not working properly, do you know what it is and what it does?

Do you have a link at all?

The EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, is a vacuum controlled valve which allows a specific amount of your exhaust back into the intake manifold. This exhaust mixes with the intake air and actually cools the combustion process. Cooler is always better inside your engine. The exhaust your EGR valve recirculates also prevents the formation of Nitrogen related gases. These are referred to as NOX emissions, and are a common cause for failing emissions testing. your EGR valve can get stuck, causing NOX gases to build up. You'll know if your EGR valve is stuck or malfunctioning because your car will experience symptoms like rough idle and bucking on accelertaion.

ok done a bit of research and LOADS of people remove it and have had no problems for years, its in my way so has to go!
What I need to know is if anyone had written a guide on how to remove the whole lot from start to finish?
Also I saw mention of putting a 2 pence piece in the hole under the bracket on the side of the engine and putting some putty or weld aroud it and then screwing the bracket back to the engine? Anyone comment on this?
I just went outside and saw the huge thing in the drivers front arch with the electrical connections, supposedly this can be removed also, which is good cos it looks like it weighs loads!

Anyone got a guide or can do one?

<si_pow> go to local hydrolics centre for breather hose or garage or find out the internal diameter of the hose and order it through Ebay!

Hey, I bought a blanking kit from the forum here for £5 but 2pence or any metal that will fill the hole will be sufficient.

Yes remove the pump by all means, it will certainly save weight and remember to keep the electric loom tied up and away from any water.

    P.S you have PM.

You will need to cut bit off the corner bud!! i got rid of mine in the end and went back to k&n 57i.............

By the way that isn't an EGR valve as at doesn't interact with the exhuast system at all.

It is simply a fresh air pump used to help emissions on cold starts. It can be removed to save a bit of weight and tidy up the engine bay.

I have heard that you actually dont need it back on for the MOT unless your engine is quite old and emits more pollution due to its age?

Bonnet raisers raise the rear of the bonnet though, not really the very front or am I wrong? I really dont like the looks of bonnet raisers much to be honest anyway... most people will look at it and just think its broken!

I know its not actually an EGR valve now due to research but its easier than saying 'the fresh air pump that doesnt connect to the exhaust' and everyone knows what your on about if you say EGR... lol

    Cheers

SO WHERE DO I GET A BLANKING PLATE FROM?

I got around this problem by putting the raceland underneath that pipe, like so:

Doesn't look that bad imo, and saves all the hassle with removing it etc

do you have these problems on mk1 vtr

Cool cheers for the piccy, can you leave the links active so that other people can read it in years to come!? will be really usefull!
Im gonna remove the Fresh air inlet valve & pump anyway to save a bit of weight and my local mechanic said its useless anyway tbh... Brought some 3mm Alu today as im gonna fabricate a blanking plate, just need to find out where I can buy some cardboard gasket and make that too
yours doesnt look bad at all!

The bin... thats what everyone has done that I have spoken to, i kept it to see if i would need it at a later date for something that it actually fits... the brackets need to be made by yourself!
I used 2 small right angled brackets and the scoop rests on them at the moment, it clears the manifold cover and because its not bolted to the scoop and the front panel it doesnt try to rip the filter apart when the engine is revving!
Should I do a how to guide? the other one doesnt apply to Mk2's... esp ones with the fresh air intake pump...
