decat

i read that having a decat makes the engine run rich which messes with the lambda sensor and ruins fuel economy? whats your experience..
  2. #2
Since i've had my de-cat fitted my fuel economy has been fine ... if not slighty better on longer journeys. Although I did have a problem with my second Lambda Sensor a few months back, which could well have been down to the De-Cat.

lambda's before the cat, so it won't change what it reading.

i think its done somthing to the fuelling on mine by decatting it. thats why im going back to standard...
  12. #12
    lmao @ the fuelling answers

the lambda sensor, which in my experience does fuck all on a narrow band anyway, sits BEFORE the cat so how removing the cat changes how the engine runs is beyond me.

id like to be told other wise though

on a mk 2 vtr there are 2 sensors, 1 before the cat, 1 after it. it controlls the fuel mixture, which is the problem im having. on the mot at 3000 rpm the max allowed co2 is <0.2. mine was 15.8- overfuelling badly.

is that with cat in manifold ? i think i remember that acutaly as my mate had a 1.1 with that manifold.

im jsut too old skool, well done though.
  15. #15
yeah its the one with the cat in the manifold mate. am i right in thinking the mk2 vts only has one sensor?
  16. #16
so basically most people are fine,

i found where i read it: CAR Mechanics mag october 2008

"What makes matters worse is when owners have a go at tuning their cars by removing the cat. The car will then run far to rich and subsequently contaminate the lambda sensor."

thanks for the feed back, supersprint race system sounds like a nice crimbo pressy haha

not sure on the VTS, ive only ever owned mk1's. well mk1 engined cars anyway

simple answer when decatting twin lamda cars is to sleeve the second lamda sendor
get a supersprint plug off cam
    and a sleeve off gmc
little bracket is easy to make to hold the sleeve job done

means the second lamde reads clean air as it should so it doesnt adjust the fuelling

the problem you will have sometimes with de-catting the mk2 vts is that your engine management light will come on,also its a pain in the arse when it comes to the mot cos you need to put the cat back on for a pass.
  23. #23
Why do people whinge about putting the cat back in come m.o.t time, it take longer jacking the car up than it does to swap the pipe.
  24. #24
av never heard of a de cat doing things liike that.
