  3. #3

  5. #5
if your going to change i would leave it alone. can get a 16v engine for £200.
  6. #6
maximum (and i mean going mental) from a westy would be sub 250 i rekon (like just over 200 but it would be highly unreliable and undriveable as a daily

n would cost a few grand

wheras if you start with a vts conversion n do similar mods (ie charging) you could see 350ish (colin and dean on 106oc spring to mind)

daily useably mods on a vts could see about 160-165 quite happily

a few grand for a 250hp 1360cc 8v, try a fuck load of grands lol.

mate jsut bang a vts engine in it, you will not need to do anyhting to it, save spending it on your wimpy (no offence) 1.4 and put a 120hp VTS lump in.

a 75hp up to 120+ (140 with cams and a few breathing mods) will be mental compared to what your used to.
  8. #8
if you want a cheep turbo pm cobblers got his for 500 quid bad bodge job tho and will go pop big power is no were near cheep and only worth it if you are going to keep your car a long time

few means more than 1 lol

prolly should have put a fair few grand tbh

also with cams most vts lumps are nearer to 150 with a good map
  10. #10
yer i know, but i didnt mention a map

only say that as i dont have a map yet, sounds awosme, idles like a V8 and shiiiifts over 6k
  11. #11
yea remember mine unmapped was epic for the idle (even after it was lumpy)

cant wait till my 106 does it lol
  12. #12
ill get it mapped one day
  13. #13
ill get my cammed engine in one day lol

then i can worry about mapping
  14. #14

    good choice my man
  16. #16
    thx vary much dude
  17. #17
strip it too mate, im @ 720kg ish and have a power to weight of 195bhp. (give or take)

concidering a R33 skyline GTR has 179.22 bhp/ton it gives you some idea of the performance that can be had from weight loss, also the breakes, suspension etc are having to do alot less work so perform phenomenally better
  18. #18
    lol you whore don

    (mind i want a 700kg westcoast) i want 130bhp/ton from the 1.4
  19. #19
i didnt do the work, but 700kg is mental stripping, inside of the door cut out, sunroof cut out, boot cut till it only jsut holds together, no abs, no pas, no dash, to deadening, no paint, carbon bonnet, smaller battery, one mirror, all rubber gromits removed, bolt heads cut off, wiring loom taken out, chopped up for whats not used and then replaced etc.

i jsut bought it like it

but if i had bought it id be doing the same.

ok then guys i will just make my body work look gd atm and when i start my appeship i will start saving away for a vts engine drop i will get some one to put it in i have a question tho guys is the westcoast 1.4 be able to take the power of a vts engine and will i loss handling or do i not have to change any thing apart from the engine the cooling for the engine and put rear disks on the back apart from drums will that be ok or is there more work i should do because i dont want to change the engine and have to spend more money to changing parts on the car to cope with the power ?
  21. #21
    brakes before power
  22. #22
is that all i need to do ?
  23. #23
no mate suspension and breaks why have it with big bhp when you cant use it? so you shud make sure you can get the power down before you get the power sorry if it dont make sence bin a realy long day lol
  24. #24
    thats cool thx

Only problem putting a vts engine in and adding more power, you will need to change the rear brakes and you should also look at bigger front brakes. For the rear you could take a beam off a vts and the fronts you could get hold of some second hand gti-6 breaks.

I recon with the vts engine, cams and good breathing mods, you could see 150 once its been remapped of course
  26. #26
ye or i could just get black diamond brakes couldnt i they would do the job ?
and ye i know about the rear beam people sell them on here so thats ok and i could just do black diamond brakes all the way round what u think ?
  27. #27
i wouldnt get something like them no

they do mate a small improvement but nothing compared to what a 266 or even a 283mm setup would

bigger is allways bettin in braking (to a certain extent anyway)
  28. #28
k will i work at halfords so getting the brakes of a pug 306gti is not going to be a problem do i have to change any thing to fit them or will they go on ok ? thx
  29. #29
need to angle grind a little bit off the carrier but other than that they bolt straight on

youll see as soon as you offer up the carrier what needs grinding
  30. #30
ok fp and should i get them all round the car or just the front ?
  31. #31
    just the fronts mate

westy runs drums rear but a vtr/s beam will convert it to discs which is more than adequate
  32. #32
fe so u think i could get all thats needs to be done for about £2000 including the engine put in ?
  33. #33
could be a reasonable budget but i would budget more likr 2.5-3 just to be safe
  34. #34
they do quite good disk brakes for saxoes on ebay, including pads. have a look if your tryna keep the price down.
  35. #35
as said a simple disc/pad upgrade is nothing compared to a bigger setup
  36. #36
Sell the westie and buy a proper vts - less hastle in the long run!

Money from westie +2k = a nice late low mileage vts!
  37. #37
i was looking at doing this with my westy but i wanted to keep the drums to give it a proper sleeper look is that not do able
  38. #38
how much u do think i could sell my westcoast for then it has done 57 and i got it for £1200 lol ?
  39. #39
come to think of it i still want an engine swoop lol i will get it done at some point no matter what i have to change

    it is doable yes

theres a guy with a 1.1 vts n hes running the drums (i drove mine for a short while with drum rears

they do minimal work tbh but the discs do hold up better (due to more heat from going faster)
  41. #41
ye i just need to save hard and not crash and then i am going to do it i think it would be fun to turn up one night and show all my m8s up with a vts inside the 1.4 they would not be able to tell right away lol
  42. #42
    its called a sleeper lol

    its done quite a bit

jps is the best westy imo running about 170hp at fly from a throttle bodied vts lump
was featured in fcs a few months back
  43. #43
oh k thx m8 i just need to do it away from all my m8s and while i am doing that i will give the 1.4 engine to my bro when it is done to go in the 1.1 my m8s will be cluelless
  44. #44
citroen made a 1.4 flatarch so it wouldnt be that sleeper to 1.4 the 1.1 (unless the knew it as a 1.1 like)

i prefer my way to do it lol
i have a 95hp 1.4 8v pug motor to go in my westy

still a 1.4 so good on insurance and tax ect but should keep up with vtrs when done
  45. #45
well ye but when i get the money i am going to drop a vts engine in and with that it will keep up with my m8s 1.5 golf and give it a run for its money when i have camed it and remapped with everything else lol and it will bet a 1.4 twinport lol
