VTR Different Heads??

Hi all, just registered as i have a few questions which im sure can be answered here, i have a R Reg VTR and am looking for another head to replace the one in my car as the valves are blowing but dont have time to take it apart at the wknds, i want another head which i can do up and swar straight over. Is it possible to use a 2 Gen Saxo head instead of just the 1st Gen ones. As i notice the thermostat housing is different, is this the only set-back?

the mk2 head is different to the mk1 head as the mk2 has roller rockers, i think the mk2 ecu will need to be used if you want the mk2 head, the easiest thing would to be buy a mk1 head, hope this helps.

using the later head will be more problems than its worth

i would get a mark 1 head and recon it before fitting mate

There are 3 common heads and a few sub variants but basic your talking 3 head. The late models head is a totally different casting and you cant even physically bolt on the inlet manifold from any of the earlier heads. The two other heads of the earlier car similar and you can physical bolt most of the bits from one to another. The cam, rockers, valve spring and so on are all different though. The compression chamber volume is different too. Really if your just replacing broken bits you want to fit like for like.

Well the only problem with my head is that i have probably burnt a couple of valves out as they are blowing and i'm down on compression and well up on fuel consumption. A friend has a mark 2 head which i can re-condition at work (Skim, grind valves in etc) i just want to know whether i can sucessfully put it on my mark 1 saxo after a bit of feteling with out too much ball ache.
