VTS rear suspension, what's the difference?

  1. #1
Basically I've bought a VTS of my boss for £500, just needs the rear beam replacing. He's already got one to go in it, only thing is it's drums (not too bothered about that) but it's marked up as a 106 diesel!!

Just wondering if the tortion bar is dirrerent (not in fitment, but in handling) or is it just the dampers? Don't really want it wallowing around!!

    Cheers.

put the trailing arms on off from your vts with new bearings in. also use your torsion bars and arb.

I would, but the reason it needs it replacing is the bearings broke up and f***ed it for lack of a better phrase. The VTS setup was notably heavier, I assume it has a thicker tortion bar meaning stiffer suspension? Any details for someone who's had them both apart would be great.

    Cheers.

the drum beams are not as wide as the disk ones, therefore look crap with the vt arches, what you need to do is as said above, put your vts trailing arms on the drum beam, and put new bearings and seals on (£50 for the lot) then you have a basically brand new beam. alternativly just buy a re con vts beam.

p.s you cant use the drum beam because it dont have abs on either

Just putting the beam wiv the drums on because I got it with the car, will put a VTS one back on at some point. How much is a recon one? Don't really fancy buying a used one.

i think the stub pins are different sizes mate
the drum runs a smaller diameter

it will fit straight on the car but the torsion bars and arb are smaller so will be softer on the rear and will roll more
you could put the vts bars in the drum beam (i think the torsion bars run the same splines) i know the arb fits in as i did it on my 1.1

i personally would source another beam as you got the car so cheap

beams are the same size. its the arms which are different. just put new bearings in the vts arms and put them on the new beam.

fair enough then (i was sure the drum was smaller but williams is doing pins so hs prolly right lol)

    thats probably the best plan
use the vts bars and arms you should be fine

m8 just nock the stub axles out the vts axle and fit them to ya uva 1 and bobs your uncle

you need to drill a hole in the to press them out. but why would he want to do that when
    1) the vts stubs and bearings are fucked
    2)drum beam is the same

what do you need to drill a hole in to get them out? ive never drilled anything when dismantling beams/repacing bearings.

do you press the stubb pin out of the beam? pressing the pins out of the yellow beam im on about.
