tracking, toe in and turn in sesativity

right i have been having tracking issues recently with the saxo, had it tracked twice and i felt comfortable with it, changed the ball joint and it threw the tracking out, had it re done today the guy said my track rods were shot as they were floating im pretty sure they are meant to eanyway to the point

when i turn into a conrner the turn in is alot crisper and it turns in faster but seems to feel a bit under steery, have they toed the wheels in a bit to much?

    thanks

depends on a lot of things tbh

Tread left on your tyres? what tyres you using, surface of the road and condition where this is happenign.
Suspension on the car, how low are you at the rear how low you at the front, what shocks do you have.

Think i got my tracking done with 1 toe in last time, turns in fairly sharp, isnt really understeery either tbh and thats with a fucked steering rack as well.

the point being it hasnt done it befour.... would toe in cause this kind of behaviour?
  4. #4
    yes of course it would.
But as i asked, what is the set up of your car.

When they did the tracking did they use lazer allignment?

    the setup its
been lower 40mm on koni springs
brand new set of 195x45x15 yokeys all round
lowerd on torsion same amount on back
tbh it was moist this morning but last night it was quite dry but seemed very slidey...

    it was laser aligned yer..

should be fine, didnt know koni made 40mm springs?

whats it like today? still understeery
  7. #7
it was today that i felt it now its dried up i am gogin to pop out at lunch from work, the back end seems quite "wallowy" if you get me seems a bit swaying, need new rear dampners?
  8. #8
yeah if its bouncy the shocks will be shot mate.
what shocks you got on it?
  9. #9
front wheels arent supposed to be parallel withe each other.

standard , just went for a drive wasn't really understeering just spinning the wheels so must be a grip issue ??

deffo, the roads round here are very greasy.

You got much tread left on your tyres.
My tyres are fairly good in the wet tbh grip like fuck, but on greasy surface just spin and under steer.

    May just be your driving

yer like i said new yokohamas all round mine grip liek shit to a blanket in the wet but arent the last few days, maybe i have only jsut noticed it yesterday, it is very salt and crappy at the moment.
my driving wouldnt put it past it! lol

what dampners you recomend for the rear?

billies are probably the best to get but pricey.

I have koni's front and rear.

If you want cheap ness but uprated you cant go wrong with spax tbh

yep man, it's probably the single biggest variable in car handling performance so toe adjustments need to be made very very carefully.

from my experience toe-in, but my experience was based on a rear wheel drive vehicle man...

I think your tyres might be more of an issue though (as mentioned by a couple of others!)

    depends what yokos they are.

Apparently its toe-in for RWD toe-out for FWD but don't quote me on that

Today the steering felt different for some reason, not as good as usual, maybe to do with the road conditions...
  21. #21
iirc toe in on the front in fwd gives you more turn in?
  22. #22
no toe out gives you better turn in on fwd.

ive tried many different settings and ive found that parrallel was best. if it comes off the road to be a track car then ill toe it out slightly.

toe in on a rwd car will make it understeer, i do it on the cars at my work as its safer.

ive got yokos on my vts and if it even look like it is going to rain they spin they are a shit hot dry tyre but do not like the wet atoll and if yoy car is lowerd then trackink it with lasier gadges wont get it wright it will need a geomatry to set it up propply
  24. #24
the saxo is set as toe in
  25. #25
sum yokos are crap in the wet
  26. #26
so basically we are concluding its probably set right but its jsut crap roads at the moment but it seems a little sensative...

yes thats what i would say mate. Struggle to find a decent road surface this time of year imo

if i did minimal adjustments how would i make the steering slightly less sensative around the centre...
