Heard their fitting is pants and you need to modify them to fit... which is not cool. But would like to hear your thoughts and experiences

sayer its a cunt to fit, lower gearbox mount i left unattached as do alot of people lol!

Need to do the nuts up in a set order due to the way the primaries bend.

performance per £££ though they are the best thing there is from RR graphs ive seen
  3. #3
Think thats just the VTR version man. Mine went straight on 1st time no problemos. Wrapped it pretty thickly too and i doesnt foul anything.
  4. #4
I've been looking between the Raceland one and the Janspeed one. I know the Janspeed is mild steel but for the same price which would most of you recommend? Sorry to hijack like this! But i'm interested in fitting too, to a Mk1 VTS
  5. #5
argh Ryan so we're talking about the VTS here yeah?
  6. #6
yes, primary one is the one thats the arse (well far left one) need to put that one on first iirc, and then slowly move the manifold back as you tighten the bolts.

Its an arse but i fitted and removed the fannymould a few times on my rallye engine dude.

If you get the 16V I can help fit it if you have the car dowwwwwwwwwn souffff

I have no problems recommending the raceland for a VTS. Mine is a single plug so the same running gear as the mk1 VTS & the manifold costs like £130 it fitted first time, maybe i was lucky but i dont remember having to do anything special to get it and all the bolts in. I ran it for a month or so then took it off & heat wrapped it and refitted it again with no problems even with the extra thickness from the wrap. Had no issues attaching the gearbox mount either.

Been running it for about a year now too.

sounds groovy... not going to leave a gearbox mount off though...

interesting must be a slight difference in 3 plug maybe?

Mine fitted my VTS no problems.

i just didnt get round to fitting the lower box mount as the car was having work done to it, I know a few who have left them off after the mount snapped from the manifold.

I was going to use one on my old engine, its only because of the system i have now theres no point
  11. #11
    OK then...

    Change of question...

What is the best (for N/A) 4-2-1 manifold available???

    ads
  12. #12
according to the RR graph of davePs engine the raceland.

Notable differences between the way the power was produced compaired to the GMC 4-1.

theres a few more graphs floating around somewhere aswell compairing it vs supersprint.

LOTS of people on a fair few forums have all run racelands.

And as you know the best will be determined on engine spec. A raceleand wont flow very well on a 230bhp NA engine, which is why the pugsport manifold is designed how it is,

Personally ad, for your money your best buying a raceland manifold, no point spending 200 quid extra on a supersprint because the gains will be so tiny you wouldnt notice!
Spend that 200 quid on something else

hardcore??? naaaa up to cammed eventually and that'll be it tbh. Because of the remap I want to get best bits (within reason) for exhaust and intake first.

and I'm keen to not have an offensively loud and shit sounding saxo at the same time
  19. #19
dont get a supersprint then lol!

    Magnex for you imo.

for the cost not really much point.

I just went raceland as the RR graphs on rallye reg from daves made interesting reading.

tbh I'm surprised you had a 4-1 on yours man, only because it shifts the torque up the rev range even further... (good for outright bhp - but not so good for spreading the power tbh). Personally your car runs sweet anyway so I'd leave it

not sure on how restrictive the standard would be on a cammed engine dude.

that's my concern man... as I didn't want to decat it either...

what about the centre section as that's got a 2nd silencer in it... what can i replace that with?
  26. #26
replace it with a system that has a box in, it will keep the resonation down at motorway rpm imo, aswell as the overall noise wont be as much as a straight through system.

If you hear what mines like with nothing but a rear box you will see why I say 3 box system for YAAAAWW!!!

Could allways just get the cams in, and get her on the rollers, see if the exhaust is restricting it certain rpms etc...

might be able to get away with it

What about if you had manifold, standard cat, abp centre section & the magnex rearbox?

I've got raceland, decat, magnex centre box, magnex backbox. Ideally i'd like it to be quieter than it is but compared to other exhausts i've heard mine is quiet.

When i put the cat in the car doesnt feel much different tbh, the exhaust note is a bit mre grumbly which sounds quite nice. I've heard a few people say what a difference the decat makes though.

At least if you have the option to put the cat on or off you can just pop it back on for MOTs and off for trackdays etc if you think its holding you back.

Funny you should mention that mate, I was just looking at Magnex's and then what to do with the centre section...
abp centre section then? assume that's just a straight-thru is it? Sounds good tbh. any more info on it man? Cost? where to buy? etc

Cat if at all possible will stay on, however if it is severely hampering performance I'll go though the ball ache of changing it for MOT's if need be.

    Cheers!
  31. #31
Takes 30 mins to swap it over for MOTs, i always spend half a day before hand giving the car my own MOT anyway. so it needs to be jacked up to check for play in the wheels/bushes!

ABP centre section is a straight though version of magnex centre box pipe, was made by www.abpmotorsport.co.uk i think.

The cat doesnt have the same sound deadening qualities as one of the muffler boxes in the exhaust though so it will probs be louder doing it that way.
  32. #32
in my experience though no center box gets a tad annoying on longer drives.

on both of my saxos when ive had straight through systems theres been more resonating at set motorway speeds that pisses you off compaired to the systems with a middle box
  33. #33
    Just for search purposes.

The GMC 4-1 is also a bitch to fit, it touches the gearbox and sits low. So much i had to adjust my backbox to stop it melting my bumper as it had been pushed upwards so much.

I'm running exactly the same ... Not loud and OTT but picks up abit after 4k RPM.

I've also heard the GMC 4-1 Manifold sits low and people have had problems in this aspect.
  35. #35
i kno this threads about the vts but i have a raceland on my r and and i had to make a bracket to attach the g/box to the bracket on the mani, was around and inch and a half away, was a noticeable increase in power though
  36. #36
i had to remove the fan to get it up through the front of the engine bay, but other than that went straight on
  37. #37
cant go wrong with raceland for the money, personally i fucking hate them.
Dont like the bends etc nor the build quality, seen a few where the welds have cracked.

Also piper 4-1 never had any problems with these in the past.

Get on SSC GMC doing a deal for xmas on the BTB manifold.
  38. #38
Never had any issues with my raceland sayer. Its knocking on two years old and is still fine. Yes they can be a bit of a bitch to fit and I had to leave the gearbox mount off, but it hasnt made any difference to how its mounted. As for build quality ive heard its hit and miss where some are better than others but of the three ive seen they all looked fine.
  39. #39
I am going to fit the raceland manifold to my mk2 vts this weekend. Is there anything in particular I need to watch out for? Ideally I'd have the car up on ramps so I can go underneath it but all I have is a 3 tonne jack (and two other small jacks) - will this be sufficient in getting the car up high enough to fix the manifold from underneath? What is the best way to go about this?

Sorry for the daft questions but I'd like to do this myself this weekend as I've heard its a pretty straightforward job to do...
  40. #40
Got a Raceland on mine, For the price of one of them compared to others you could have two racelands and it would still be reasonable.

atm i've got a raceland 4-2-1, standard cat, supersprint race and piper backbox, not to loud when cruising down the motorway.
  41. #41
Mine fitted fine, no specific order needed to tighten the nuts at all. Gear box mount fitted fine as well.

Not a problem with fitting mine at all. Spot on for the value and been proved to work quite well so I can't complain at all.
  42. #42
I think its more of an 8v problem with the racelands fitting 16v ones seem fine
  43. #43
had to cut the gearbox mount off mine, and couldnt tighten one nut due to having heatwrap on, apart from that its worth the cash.
  44. #44
i wanna buy one of this!! but i'm not decided yet !
  45. #45
the one bolt was a pain in the arse!!,

Btw what is the main difference performance wise with the 4-2-1 and the 4-1 everyone seems to have a 4-2-1 i take it there better than the 4-1 ???

4-1 gives you the power higher up the rev range and i believe 4-2-1 gives you it earlier or steadily thru the range, cant quite remember

Just to add am running a straight throught supersprint and the rear magnum back motorway driving its spot on as its just the right sound level

didnt alexr on a certain forum state that with a cammed engine the standard exhaust and a decat will suffice?
  51. #51
i fitted mine with the alternator and the radiator off and was still a c*nt to fit , not actually a bad mani imo slayer!
  52. #52
mine went straight on no bother
  53. #53
so how do they actually fit on mk1 vtr's seen a few people say that they think they are an arse, but has anyone here actualy fited one to a mk1 vtr. How was it to fit
  54. #54
Sorry to ressurect an old thread but am having problems today trying to fit a raceland manifold to my mk2 VTS. First off fitment is shite - you're lucky if it went on no problems. The two problems I'm having are:
    1. Gear box mount and manifold bracket are wayyyyy off lol.
    2. lamda sensor is too short to to reach up to its plug.

With regard to point one, could I just make up a bridging bracket to join the two? I don't like to idea of the manifold carrying an unnecessary tension/weight from the exhaust when it can be secured using a bracket. For point two, will I need a longer sensor from citroen?

Help appreciated. When I've finished I'd upload a detailed step-by-step picture guide of fitment and the problems exprienced as I've been taking photos whilst working.

for gear box mount, did you try and attach it after you had tightened the head mani studs? If so, leave it perched on top of then untighted and get box mount on and tighten all at the same time.

and the sensor, did you run it round the back of the engine?

Got the bracket to fit now! Used a copper mallet to gently bend the bracket, loosened off all the studs on the mani/head interface as you said and it went on fine Thanks for advice.

However the lamda plug is still too short by about 6-8 inches or so. Will try and feed it up the back of the engine to see if this works however still think it will be a little short.
  57. #57
Haha yeah just fed the lamda sensor up the back of the engine and it clipped in easy, plenty of give

    again thanks for advice!
  58. #58
mine went on without too much hassle mate.
you just need to fiddle about with the nuts to get them tight as the primaries are close.

but to be fair, it took me the same length of time to fit my GMC btb one to the vtr lol

i didnt bother with the gearbox mount, i just cut the thing off, i never use them anyway tbh.

defo well worth it for the money IMO
    go for it
  59. #59
I know mine's a VTR, but mine took some modifying (not too much, but abit) and i can safely say that even though i did have to modify... It's still the best thing i bought for my Saxo. I love it.
