wear on outside edge of frount passanger wheel

  1. #1
right just a quick one really.
ive noticed the outside edge of my frount passanger wheel has wore down alot more than the rest of the tyre.

as it happens my friend needed to get his tyre checked so i asked whilst i was there andi was told it was POWER ASISTED STEERING WEAR????

ive never even herd of power steering wearing down the outer edge of the tyre?

also if it is this then how come its only on the passanger side?

any ideas of other things that could cause this or if it is the power steering would be great.

    cheers.mark

PASW sounds bullshit itle be your tracking out mate no real expence best to get your tyres done aswell tho if ther bad

as said get he tracking done and may as well get the hweels balanced as that doesnt cost much

Definately tracking, especially if its only on one edge. Power assisted steering wear is generally a cenre tyre thing because people turn the wheel when the car is not moving which you cant do on a non power assisted car (unless youre arnie or have thin wheels)

you also have to consider going around roundabouts.. are you going in too hard maybe? too fast? this may cause the tyre wear also

He's got a good point there, especially if you like a bit of sideways action!

There are more right hand corners than left. That is roundabouts for you. So front left is normally the one that goes first. If you like going fast round roundabouts then this is even more true. Also if you have low tyre pressure again this will magnify this even more.

    + lowering usually.

Either too much toe out, or too much positive camber. Best to get it all tracked and checked mate, also how often do you check tyre pressures?

be surprised if its tracking, almost def the roundabout wheel taking a hammering imo. Tyre rotations the way forward

I've noticed wear on the very inner shoulder. cars not lowered and tyre pressures are checked weekly

wat about all this malarky with the pas pipe rubbing on the tire with lowered mk2's? could it be anything to do with that?
  14. #14
Thought the PAS pipe rubs on the steering rack?

cheers for all the advice and all the quick replies.

so there many things it could be.

o and my car is not lowerd yet but i do get my -50mm kit next week hehe.

ill have to check my tyre pressures and swap the tyres round and see if it happens rapidly once lowerd.
cheers once gain for the ideas guys.

Could be tracking, but theres a good chance your bottom ball joint is shagged. Jack it up n giv it a tug holding the wheel 12 n 6 O'clock. If you feel any play have a look to see where it's coming from.
