Few questions about 1.1's

  1. #1
On a flat arch, i know plenty of people ask about slamming a vtr engine in there, but people say its too much hard work, how hard can it be?
Also what about 1.4 engines from the westcoasts and furios, would they go in too?
Ive tried a search but i never found out what the price would be to do it, and what kind of place would do it?

Can someone let me know please, itl change alot of plans on my car.
    Cheers.

yeah the 1.4 engins can be dropped in too. if you get an engine from the same year as your car you shouldn't have too many problems. The cost depends really, a 1.4 engine will be around £100 but then obviously you will have to pay someone to fit it or fit it yourself, depends how mechanically minded you are

Yeah, i know a few places i could get either a vtr engine or a 1.4, I just would like the experience of transforming my first car into something abit more original you know, Do you think many places would fit it, or do you think it would be specialist? also what do you think the price would be for fitting?

I'm guessing also a few other things would have to be replaced so that the car can handle the speed, and so that i can get the best performance.

tbh mate its not worth it. Get a furio as they look like vtr's and a vtr engine would have so much power on those shitty break of our 1.1's thats why they have discs all round. I guess a scrappy would fit it, i know the one i go to fit engines. You could connect it your self. Just drive shafts and the rest is cables.

Hope your going to tel your insurance.

Yeah i was going to do, most people say its not worth it, i just wouldnt mind seeing it done, and i guess it would be more original but, alot of other stuff would have to be replaced too i bet?

Breaks would have to be replaced (Break conversion too)
    Exhaust i'm guessing
    Suspension
    Wheels
    gear box

Time you spent all that money you could had got a VTR and paid the insurnce.

Furio's don't have discs all round?

i was going to do mine but what i had saved for the break covserion and that has pretty much paid for a mk2 vts just save mate. yeah it would be cool but you got to think safety aswell the 1,1 wasnt designed to have a 1,6 dropped in it

as above just get a 1.4 to begin with. tbh i really like the 1.4s there quite good. and can get allright power out of them. and they look the same.

1.4's only have 5BHP more then a 1.1.. They have a body kit like the VT but still have dums

    Nope.. Discs and Drums!

no your wrong there 1.1 had 60 bhp and 1.4s had 75 bhp (in wescoast, furio, quiksilver form) and 100bhp in the old 106 xsis. Altho some 1.1 earlier carb ones had 55bhp.

tbh Id save and get the usual brakes VT* or the 266mm setup, good suspension and that would be alright for a daily drive first car

You sure the Furio's have 75BHp... I'm SURE that its only +5BHP

When i drove Joshwas Furio that was no different to mine expect gearing but thats cos it was a bigger engine. He said the same about mine.

75bhp everyone knows quiksilvers, furios and wescoast 1.4 alloy block mpi enignes are 75bhp
  15. #15
Shit... Mines only 60BHP and we didn't even notice much difference at all.
  16. #16
Ok.. Just looked on parkers and i'm wrong... i hold my hands up.

    15BHP isn't much difference tbh.

Furios are mk1 vtr pace in my experience. leagues ahead of a 1.1 imo.
  18. #18
seconded, a furio does seem about par with a mk1 vtr from previous experience. obviously weight, driver etc comes into it.

    :| How? haha

Yeah ive been thinking about getting a furio, but is it still limited to what power you can get out of them like on a 1.1?

Ive always wanted a vtr though imo, but i cant find anywhere that does cheap enough insurance.

Forgot to ask aswell, with everything included, to make the car safe, with a VTR engine in it, how much do you think the price would be? (safe enough to pass its MOT)
