gearbox and drive shaft not lasting long atall

hi guys my 2000 vts has done two boxes, a clutch and two passenger side driveshafts in 4 months. spinning up first gear then selecting 2nd and i snapped all gear linkages and ripped a hole in the box, any one no why? obviously driving like a idiot, but why? ismy car to low? or what?

cause your spinning up and ragging it
wheel spinning isnt big or clever (hence your destroying your car)

    you even admit its stupid
it puts stress on everything and ruins your drivetrain

clearly so mate, havent done it since but any stronger shafts i can get? loosing traction is a big problem on saxos for me, my vtr coming out of corners just used to spin untill it hit the rev limiter, and the s floor it in second gear on a straite and spins like madd, got correct tyre pressure and that

buy new ones (well reconditioned ones) ive shagged 5 2nd hand ones in a year and drive sensible (most of the time )

got so pissed off and bought a set of reconditioned ones over 6 months and all is good in the hood.

also i bought a £21 gti box with 87k on and its probably done over 110k and its fine

    is your vts turbo'd?

I can appreciate it spinning in first if its wettish but 2nd??? i doubt/
    something isn't right here though...

the worse part is mate that they have been 200 quid a go from citroen, and the boxes 100 and 150 best one ive had was outta 106 gti by far, made stronger maybe?
  7. #7
when you put your foot down it pulls and hits the power and just looses grip, when wettish. i dont like spinning the wheels! and yes definatly second gear
  8. #8
oh yeah and no not turbo'd, was planning it but thort it would be unreliable as im already struggling for traction and going threw engine mounts rapidly

must be low on tread or crappy tyres man... we're talking wheel spinning at 40mph here

oddly though, if the wheels are shite it's probably a good thing as it reduces the stress on the drivetrain...

I think though it might just be simpler just to take it a bit more chilled on the S

    Your car sounds fucked.
  11. #11
you rite, wet aint fun either really isit
  12. #12
spinning in 2nd as sayer says means something aint right

im a cammed vts in the wet mine broke traction slightly but it was only a little spin and that was a hard shift from like 6.5k so dropping to like 3750ish

    id say look at tyres
had a 2051.9gti on h rated tyres (max of 82mph) it span like a bitch swapped the tyres after a few days to some toyo proxes and it was fine

tbh cheap tyres is playing with fire
there all that holds the car to the road

yeah man gunna change them, all i mean on the vts is a little spin here and there when flooring it, my tyres are low pros this got any thing to do with it maybe?
  14. #14
why do you wheel spin? if you want to get off the line faster, then thats nto the way to go about it, its stupid, and shows your a bad driver and dont know how much you can acvccelerate without doing it.

my toyos were a 40 profile (so lowish) as i had 16s

    should make minimal difference
  16. #16
i dont wanna spin mate thats what i am saying. mine are a 40 profile aswell on vts alloys should be okay init?
  17. #17
well thats reducing the overall diameter of the tyre which may cause some extra spin (but not that much)
you should run a 45 profile
plus your speedo will be out aswell

personally i think your a bit heavy on the clutch
  18. #18
could be man just had it replaced aswell. going to nead new tyres january some point was thinking about 45's
  19. #19
    id get 45s

    and some decent ones

sounds good to me, thanks for your help

would say its your driving tbh

someone i know, did the same constantly going through shafts and boxes, car was stupid low and ragged it to fuck

    how low is your car?

Try fitting decent tyres standard VTS wheels and the tyre size recommended is 195/45/15

If you want to reduce spin fit a LSD but if your fucking boxes all the time and fuck this it will be a lot of money down the drain, try being mechanically sympathetic for a change

fair play, only 60mm springs and 3 drops on the tortion bar
  23. #23
btw this is the shaft frim my 1.1 that a few of us abused
(the car was bought for a runabout and to abuse)
it got mullered and this happens

it also took out a few other parts like the hub bearing and diff never sounded right after it
hence i know why you shouldnt be an arse in a car
  24. #24
i just ripped mine out the box, had no bearings left on it
  25. #25
yea snapping the shaft is a rarity in breaks from what ive seen

i shattered both joints (as you can see by 1 bit being missing) and one on the opposite shaft drivers hub bearing ad ruined the box

    lesson learned
  26. #26
you are rite there mate wont be spinning it up again lol
