1.4 flatarch, drag or track?

  1. #1
i was gonna get a vts engine for my car but cant get insured so i think i might get a 1.4 furio engine (mines a 20001.1 btw), what do you guyy think it would be better to set it up as? straight line speed or track? and what mods would be best for the setup, o and ive already got a rear disk beam waiting to go on so brakes shouldnt be a problem?
    thanx

no point setting a 1.4 or even a saxo up for straightline speed tbh lol

thats what i thought lol, when i put drag i didnt mean i wanted to make a drag car lol just summin that goes fast in a straight line lol, but it gets people looking lol

so before anyone says it, i dont wanna make a drag car out of a 1.4 engine

straight line speed you need power. So with the current engine and no mods its not going to set the world alight.

Now on the track you just need to carry the speed around the corners! With a well thought out chassis and suspension spec you can use the good handling and lightweight to your advantage.

I used to track a 1.4 rallye (Peugeot 205) and it was a screamer. Somewhere on the web used to be a vid of me passing a 170bhp saxo, I had 78.2bhp at the wheels

yea i kno what you mean, i can keep up with bigger cars round corners atm, but they just run off on a straight line, obvs not on public road,

s the rallye engine 16 valve?

edit: plzzz find me that vid lol

1.4 8v lol. it helped to have £2K worth of suspension and slick tyres. Cornered as fast as a group A 205 that I met once at Silverstone and I had some room for improvement too. Got ride though as I bought the 309 shell.

Up the straights it takes a lot of extra power to overcome a deficit on the corners. Overtaking could be a struggle sometimes though

there is the 206 Quicksilver engine but it needs a lot of work doing to get to produce decent power. (its a 1.4 16v)

I can vouch for the xsi motor, it dominates furio's.
  24. #24
the xsi is 95bhp thats why its better than a furio
  25. #25
the furio engine was never meant to be quick though, the intake systems a joke. Was meant for economy and the idea of the furio was for people who wanted VTR/S looks and handling without the power. XSi's are awesome lol
  26. #26
so id be better with an xsi? i have a racland indunction kit that will be going on and i would get a zaust and minifold so that will do for starters but what should i do to the shassie/handleing?
  27. #27
As said mate, 1.4 furio is for the grandad population really.

The 1.4 XSI pug is a decent engine.

But tbh, you'd be better off just going out and buying a VTS, and just use it for track if you cant get decent insurance. Then use day insurance or something?

  30. #30
i though like 300, 350 was the moost bhp anyone had got out of a saxo. is that drag on road legal?
  31. #31
Favourite vid on youtube is tht saxo dominating a s2000 turbo. Anyone knw wt tyms it can run up the quarter i imagine 12's?

or you could go buy an old westfeild for a few grand an use that and it would be epicly better

buying a faster car wsnt his question

i get fed up of get a vts comments
  33. #33
i have a very cheap 1.4 engine if your interested PM me
  34. #34
How many places did you try to get insured with a vtr engine with?

If your wanting more speed you could get plenty of engines bigger than a 1.4. its just knowing what your working with i guess

Have you got someone who will fit it for you, or are you going to do it yourself?

strip it, theres not much else you can do really. And i mean strip it beyond the rear seats... When you strip it your going to have to go very ghetto. Think about what you don't need really. I've just fitted a plexi glass screen in my boot lid. I was very surprised just how heavy the glass actually is and ill be doing the sun roof and rear side windows also. Take out all the carpet, door panels, replace the dash with a flocked one. Things like this will improve its handling and speed all round. You'll be surprised at the difference tbh!
  36. #36
ill let you kno about the engine

i t was a vts engine mate and i only tryed two and then give up lol, would be more than i could afford anyways, and yea i got someone with a garage to fit it and ill be helping, he fixes taxies for a job so he has the props tools etc,

and yea im gonna strip it and put perspex rear quater windows in
  37. #37
Ah right nice one, how much is he charging you to fit it?
Whats most you can get out of a 1.4? and everyone seems to have problems trying to get a vtr into a flat arch, how come everyone get so many problems?
  38. #38
rogs how does a flocked dash improve handeling
removed dash is good for weight lol

a well prepped 1.4 can be very fast
look up piggy123 his westy was pretty good
    cammed stripped track toy

and as some of you know im doing an xsi engines 'westy' to run on track

mostly concentrate on stopping and cornering and youll be very suprised how well it will go on track

Just to clear this up, you don't want perspex, you want polycarbonate (4mm). Perpsex shatters, polycarbonate doesn't
