Vts fan setup on a vtr...

  1. #1
Hi i am just wondering how hard it is to wire/fit a vts single fan in twin housing into a mk1 vtr ?, is the loom a straight swap over with the vtr one ? or do i need to hard wire it in ?

Isnt the radiator in the vts bigger than the one in the vtr? Not sure though
  3. #3
Yeh, but it will still fit as a few people have fitted them ( Alex-Vts) and also because the fan bolts onto the slam panel it doesnt really sit on the rad like the mk1 vtr ones.

Oh cool might have a bash myself then

Would you put in just 1 Vts fan in the double housing??
(This sounds rude but I dont mean it to be) Whats the point if your replacing a single Vtr fan with a single Vts fan?

i thought that but hey lol

itll drop in but really id fit a vts rad aswell as the fan for better cooling

im putting both on my xsi engined westcoast aswell as the vts oil cooler (as the car will basically only get track use)

Yeh tbh im a bit of a whore sometimes so i mainly for looks tbh hahaha lol, and yeah just 1 fan in 2 housing.

Would the vts radiator and fan assembly bolt straight into the furio front pannel?
  9. #9
yes there all the same front panel

tbh theres no point unless you absolutely beast it all the time like

Will it make the idleing temp decrese?
  11. #11
no as theres no air flowing over the rad to cool it
  12. #12
fcuk it im gonna do it anyway..BIGGER is better!
  13. #13
you do know theres such a thing as overcooling?

ie it wont let your car get up to running temp and will eventually damage it

    Serious?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Still worth it lol, hardly unlikely to overheat the engine, by adding a slight bigger fan..

Does a single VTS fan look different to the VTR fan? Is it bigger or do you think the twin housing looks better than the single housing??
  17. #17
Yeh it looks different the vts has double fan housing, but 1 fan, but you can also add another fan hence there it being double housing !!!

  18. #18
Twin housing with twin fans in white would look the sex you could see them as there white
  19. #19
Yes indeed, but if you add another fan, you have to run another wire to the inside of the car and a button to turn it on and off etc etc...

Does anyone know if the loom of a vts fan will plug into the vtr rad/fan loom ?

just the fan will be fine
on a vtr you can do the rad (if you drive hard but the 1400 dont get hot enough really as theres not as big a bang in em lol)
i put all mine in as i have a vts
and as said my westy is an xsi that will only ever get track use (so will live above 4k most of its life)

Just split the wireing from the original fan. not sure about other looms

Split the wire ? then what lol im a noob on wiring..

you need the extra relays to run two fans i think

but im pretty sure the vts loom doesnt plug into the vtr stuff properly
hence i said use the 106 gti fan as it has a simpler loom

i know thats what lee had to do

Yeh i know that but i mean why spend the money to have a case with a space for a second fan but no fan. i dunno spose it would look better actually

i want to paint my fan white as well, and then if i get a widemouth lower bumper and de-slat my grille you would see it spinning

actually i kinda want a VTS housing now, and someone on hear sells the wiring and switch and stuff in a package to control a 2nd fan although a 2nd one is very pointless
  26. #26
Yeh Was going to get 106 gti fan, just wondering how i would go wiring it to my vtr..

  27. #27

  30. #30
lol will do Mike, You can still fit it with your mk2 Rad, but obvioulsy vts/gti ones is bigger right ?, Yeh well when you fit yours, im sure ill be asking you how lol

    Mark
  31. #31
    vts rad is bigger yes
  32. #32

  33. #33
    Ok Will do mate,

  34. #34
on my mk1 the fan is in engine bay but on vts arent they behind bumper would this be a prob for twin conversion
  35. #35
Right on a mk1 vtr there are infront of engine bay, and on the vts they are bolted onto the slam panel, and also you just remove mk1 grill and then bolt it back on after

    Mark
  36. #36
if i fit the second fan in vts housing can i not link cables into cables originally on the first fan?

Yes fluids have an optimum operating temp, take a cold engine, engine wear occurs on cold starts because the oil hasn`t reached its optimum temp.So cold oil is more sludgy & as it gets hotter it thins & lubricates better.
