Sat Nav in Centre Console??

  1. #1
Just wondering if anyone has got a custom centre console with a sat nav where the air vent used to be.

Was thinking this would look pretty good and saves having to stick the sat nav to your window/wires dangaling etc.

Could you just take the vertical slats out, then mount the sat nav in the space. Then use some fibreglass/filler surrounding it to make it look decent.

    Pics anyone??

could be done with a tom tom or /we sat nav you have, build a cheap wooden frame that will fit in the vent and make if flush with fibre glass then paint maybe even wire up the charger hidden behind

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I'll probably get a tom tom one. Hopefully I could keep the tilting part of the vent so I can angle it to suit.

ha that would be cool, make sure you angle it towards you like , would it be a perminant fix or removable ?

Yeah lol. I dunno cos it would look better if it was a permenant fix but i'm just thinking about access to the on/off button and memory card slot.

Well I'd have to find a way of disabling that vent. Maybe redirect it to the front windscreen or something. Don't really know as yet lol.

why not jjust buy a flip out screen with sat nav in that way it wont scream to people nick me. lets face it paxos are hardly difficult to break into either. nice idea though. DJRem was planning to put a carputer into his old 106 project but didnt get as far as installing it...

Whats saying some1 doesn't want that chain too? Failing that if they cant get it out they will probably just smash the fuck out of it anyway...

i very much doubt you would have problems with people trying to nick it if it was built into the dash so you could just see the screen.

1 they probably wouldnt know what it was. probably just think its a screen. and 2 it wouldnt be easy to pinch like a stereo and they probably wont know how to remove the centre console to get to it.

there may be a few problems with the idea though.
    1. on/off button
    2. memory card
    3. reset button incase it crashes
    4. updating the satnav as it needs to be connected to a computer.

may be more hassel than its worth.

i think it could be done but you would need to take the satnav apart to relocate all the above parts so that you can access them.
