what would be the best tyre choice to do mostly road driving with 1 maybe 2 trackdays in '09
tyre choice
-
#1
-
#2what size?
-
#37x15" nothing as hardcore as ao48 or r888 lol
-
#4t1'rs
yoko parada spec 2's
tbh any tyre will be good for just one or 2 track days -
#5just something decent like some eagle f1s or potenzas
-
#6cool on camskill the tr1's are £42 each and f1's are £50.50.
-
#7out of interest just how much better would the R888/AO48's be over a standard good quality tyre then??? I'm meaning for track/race use
-
#8toyo proxies t1r's OMG! i had yoka's on befor and these toyos are sooooo much better!
-
#12and if its raining ?
-
#15need to get them ordered then, is the group buy on here still going on??
-
#16think if id only be tracking my car a couple of times a year id stick to f1 gsd3.on the road fantastic grip in all conditions, even though the shoulders wear out quick.
-
#17mines for track and race so R888's all the way
-
#18im very tempted for a set on my westy as its pure track use
might do a few days on normal tyres then get a set lol -
#20there very similar tyres and the 888s are cheaper
the ao48s last a bit longer thats about it -
#23I've used both, I'd say they are very similar. However in my application, I found the Yokos tended to overheat and always finished a race with huge swathes of molten rubber on the surface. The Toyos however look fine with a nice even scrub over the whole surface. Grip levels are near-as-dammit identical. So for the price difference (which is quite substantial) I would always recommend the ToyosQuote:just from what ive heard, the yokos are better.
R88 are pretty good though from experience.
With reference to wear, i've done the equivalent of 8 races on the Toyos and they still have plenty of life in them yet.
I wouldn't use them on the road though, as suggested above buy a spare set of wheels for track
HTH,

#24see raz ive heard the opposite of the toyos (one (front left) was pretty mullered after half a trackday and the right side was also wearing quite well)
the yokos managed quite a few days and 2 trips to the ring
but there are a few compounds available iirc so you may have had the harder ones -
#25this is same as what i heard from JoshQuote:see raz ive heard the opposite of the toyos (one (front left) was pretty mullered after half a trackday and the right side was also wearing quite well)

#26it was jp i heard it saw it with
-
#27does depend on the compound and the suspension setup.
Wallowy suspension eats tyres. -
#28Anyone know what are the best tyres for 106 S2 Rallye steels?
-
#30not yet ~ looking at one later. whys that?
-
#32what profiles are they and can you link me?
-
#33they look gash

BUT, id go as far as saying they are better than T1r's and yoko parada spec 2's. When the tyres are cold. Once the tyres are warmed up, theyre still good but not uite as good as the yoko's or the t1r's mate. -
#34will 185s fit on a 6" wide rim?
-
#36so the 185s will fit yes?
im guessing thatll give me more grip too.. -
#37width doesnt mae much difference karl
personally i liked my t1r proxes but they seemed to get rather warm and i started to melt them a little in proper hard driving -
#38Goodyear eagle f1 imo
-
#39what about pure road use???
