driveshaft problems?? help please. :D

    hi sax-p,

    i recently bought some alloys, and when finding out i need to get new tyres to fit, and grind away the inner lip on the archers to make the alloys fit, that my driveshaft might be going...

    its on my passenger side n/s and theres a leak around it, oil of some sort?

    i went to another garage that specialise in suspension, brakes and that sort of stuff, they said its gna cost like 89.90 to get repaired and fitted?

    what happens if i dont get it fixed or could i buy a decent second hand 1?

    what size alloys have you got??

    89 quid is reasonable
    if you dont fix it the cv joint can collapse and jam which will not be fun

    you can get a second hand one but it might not last long
    tbh id allways go new parts for stuff like suspension driveshafts ect
    its just not worth the risk

    normal 15" alloys, 3 stud...

    problem is the tyre size - 195/50/15

    i need two new front tyres at 195/45 or 40/15 and the rear inner lip grinded away

    there is a rubber bit on the driveshaft yea? i think that has split, can i get a new rubber bit seperatly and get that on the current driveshaft or does the rubber bit only come with the whople driveshaft?

    you can buy new boots but in my experience and ive seen other on here say there not the best and can fall off quite easily

    shouldnt need to grind the lip for 15s if there the correct offset
    i had to for 7 inch wide 16s and i was lowered

    but i could buy a new cv boot, 'the rubber bit' ? and then it might be sorted because its mainly just a leak i think.

    yh my alloys are 6.5" wide and its nearly catching the the inner lip on the rear arches so i need to grind it away so that'll be sorted

    but for the front im rubbing quite bad so i'll need some new tyres - 195/45/15s then in time get these tyres for the rear when they wear away...

    so anyways, could i just buy a new cv boot or do i need the whole new driveshaft?

    also, how do i know if i do need to replace the driveshaft or not? are there any obvious symptoms meaning the driveshaft needs replaced?

    tell tale signs are play in the shaft
    this can cause nocking when you turn (when they knock there fucked)
