I have a 2001 Y reg vtr, it is a mk2 obviously, which driveshafts does it have? I know they are tappered ends but there are two types of tappered i think

Any help would be much appreciated

There are two different types, flat or tapered. Generally Mk1's have flat and Mk2's have tapered, but from experience this is not always the case! So be careful especially if you're buying second hand, if you fit a flat end driveshaft into a tapered hub, or vice versa, your wheel bearing will break up pretty quickly

They changed in jan 1999, so 6 months of mk1s have tapered too.

    Most probably.

You can tell by the size of the driveshaft nut fitted, and the length of the thread on the end of the shaft Later models have a much longer driveshaft nut(twice as long)

hmmm i havent looked into this properly, so if i found a t reg 1.1 saxo the gearbox would technically fit my shafts in it ok??

You can't fit base model shafts to a VT* box, the inner ends are shorter due to the difference in the differential sizes between boxes, that and they are a lot weaker.

3 stud cars have different shafts again, most use tapered even back into early 90s
