fail you have to have number plate lights or people eg police cannot read your plate at night

is it worth getting 1 of these, can anyone tell whether its for mk1 or mk2 or doesnt it matter, saves me doing all the work and probably fooking it up

    no

    they are crap iirc

best bet is to weld a panel over the number plate recess, then fill round it, sand, fill, sand etc.

Ive heard those plates cant be joined on very well and can come lose/joints crack and fall off, also wouldnt it make your boot shape different as your adding an extra layer of metal on!?

Its rele not worth the effort and money of smoothing your boot. it doesnt even look that good imo

not something i would want to try without any experience

smoothed boot look awesome imo. do it the proper way of welding a plate as its more expensive than fibreglass boot panel but in the long run its cheaper as the fibreglass boot covers often crack and sag so u would have to re do it

u need rear number plate lights also. look on ebay for number plate light bolts

is there any how to guides on doin this

I think you're taking a massive risk doing it yourself, theres always the risk of the panel sinking if its not done right.

But god look dude it will look sweet if it works out.

Keep the number plate recess and just remove the badges and smooth the holes?

yeah you shuld just remover badges the boot panel makes a bit chavvyy look imo. but go for wat you want mate dont make anyone on here stop you

use fibreglass filler if your going to weld a plate on as this wont sink as much as normal body filler and it resists moisture alot more so isnt as prone to rust as alot of smooth panel jobs do

or get a bodyshop to smooth it over then get them to make a 106 gti rear bumper on to the bottom that has Number plate space and lights for it.

Get some LED number plate bolts like Rodzd126 pointed out. Try your local bike spares for them and make sure they are the ones that point the light sideways and not directly out the top of the fitting

What about removing the plastic handle bit with the lock on and welding a piece of metal so its flush with the boot? That way you keep your lights.

This is strictly a bodyshop modification.
    £150+

You need to relocate the number plate to your bumper.
Use a 106 bumper to achieve this.

i would personally weld a metal plate ect - not the cheap fiberglass cover way - and have a 106 number plate recess moulded into my rear bumper. looks great imo

I thought about the 106 recess but the Laguna one followed the shape of the Dimma rear bumper better.
