My back axle is shot!!

My back axle has gone kaput but the price of a new one from Citroen is crazy. My car is a 1.4 VTR so if I try to find one secondhand will any axle do or does it have to be a specific one to suit my car ?

    Thanks all.

I would imagine it's a foreign car/user. They are named differently in Europe.

If you are buying a second hand make sure it's drum to drum or disk to disk depending on what you have. EG match what you have already and it will be straight fit. 4 bolts holding on the axle and undo all brake lines and hand brake cable.

Could get new trailing arm bearings, although your axle itself could be chewed to shit if the bearings are really gone, then you need another axle.

Thanks for the quick replies. Yes I am kinda foreign, I am in Ireland, haha. I do like your guiness style smilie .

My car is called a VTR, it's 1.4 has drums on the rear and ABS, does any of this make a difference.

yeah it needs to be abs as well, as not sure how that works on drums but would imagine like a disk, with a trigger wheel like thing and if that stops it lets off the brakes for the abs to work.

Could just get disk rear beam of a vts (UK 1.6 16v with abs) and adapt the brake lines. As I have never heard of a drum braked saxo with abs before.

Now you got me doubting myself, maybe I imagined it , I will check after work. If it has no ABS would most axles fit do you think. It defo needs a new one as one of the rear wheels rocks really badly top to bottom and when parked you can see the camber is way off.

if it doesn't have abs any drum axle will do.

if it does have abs it would probly be easier to find a vts beam with abs and have a disk conversion. but then 1.4 vtrs with abs may be a common thing over ur neck of the woods so u may be lucky
