Maximum Track Performance ADVICE??

  1. #1
Well lads I'm in need of some more top quality advise. Myself and a friend are tracking a VTS. At the moment the main performance upgrades are high lift Cams and a Supersprint Exhaust. Over the past few weeks we've done the timing belt, fan belt and a full service. I bought a Track Bilstein Suspension from GMC, Toyo R888's and upgraded the brakes to GTi6 with Carbon Lorraine pads and discs from Kamracing.
With all this done next step is to get the maximum performance from the car. Because there are two of us chipping in, the costs halved make is alot easier to pick up bits and pieces.
    I was thinking of getting either a Turbo or a Supercharger but my main concerns about these are the following;

The turbo from Cituning for example seems to just bolt all gear on without actually upgrading any internals or a new ECU. Surely with the amount of work being carried out and the money they expect you to spend, engine and ECU mods would be a must.
DP Engineering do a kit TU 16V Turbo Package again no ECU or Pistons so it would have me worried I'd go to the trouble and cost of that pack only to find I need to spend as much again to make it work or be reliable.

Talking to John at GMC hes estimating around 3-4k for his Supercharger which he reckons I'd have installed and working in TWO days max. Reading through some of the other thread on here two days seems a little far fetched. He does offer an ECU, new Forged Pistons, Clutch, LSD and the actual kit itself for that type of money.

Does anyone have any first hand experience they could share with me. Maybe there are other alternatives I'm not aware of for extra reliable power or maybe there are companies in the UK I could just bring the car to and have them complete all the work.

Thanks in advance for any help lad.

The GMC kit is very good and he can sort out all the parts to go with it. John is a good guy and will help you out. DP do sell some nice parts but as you said its far from a full kit. The basic cituning is a ok start but gives very little in the way of power.

The fastest car on the circuit is not the one with the most power but the one that carries that speed on the corners. Bit of work on the chassis is in order.

The chassis is not stiff enough so I'd recommend a full cage - increases your safety too. It will need to be a weld in one to get the benifit. Strut braces too.

Once you have the car in.. cut out the inside of the doors. Use a hole cutter on the non structural parts. Fit polycarb windows. In fact anything that you don't need to drive the car ditch.

All the weight you get rid of improves acceleration (both braking and speeding up) and makes your suspension and brakes and tyres work better.

Then get out there and enjoy it. find out what needs improving before spending massive amounts on the engine.

Cheers for that lads. I have the strut braces on and I'm going to strip the car out over the holidays. I'll definitely look into getting a roll cage too. What about all the Powerflex Bushes and an uprated Torsion bar what are the advantages in fitting them?

id say get some good bushes in there yea
wouldnt bother with uprating the bars atm just get some decent dampers on the back and a good set of stiffish springs and dampers up front

i would follow the advice from kam racing, very good advice there

i would get some polly bushes from rally design, the poly race ones for the front wishbones, rear beam mounts, front arb.
get some uprated top mounts for the suspension and uprated engine mounts. upper and lower strut braces.

you can fit a thicker arb at the rear and thicker torsion bars at the rear (you will need to get some higher lb rated springs for the front with the thicker gear at the rear.

full cage, strip the dash, doors, sunroof, poly carb windows, carbon or fibre glass bonnet and tailgate.

better clutch and deffo worth getting a quaiffe ATB diff fitted

the list can go on and on matey.

its all down to your budget and how serious you are going to be using the car etc.

john from GMC really knows his stuff and is the only guy in the uk that i would / do buy gear from for boosted saxos/pugs.
the fitting of the kit is quite straight forward as long as you know what your doing, its the mapping that takes the longest and is the hard part.
john is picky and will be allowing a wee amount of time for anything he needs to do to your car etc. he knows what kind of probs he can be up against etc.

defo worth the money getting him to do it.

as already said, best car on the track isnt the car with the most power, a well setup and balanced car will run rings around a car that is unstable and has power for all the wrong reasons lol

yes i would get the chasis set up properly before id go for more power, theres some good advice given above, maybe go for throttle boddies instead of a turbo, with some decent management.
