whirring, clutch realease bearing question..

  1. #1
    Hey guys.

Well since i got my car my clutch realease bearing has been a little noisey, been about 6 months now...

Now i no this will eventually go and i will need a new clutch, i meen for example, if im on the motorway at approx 80mph for long periods of time it will be louder when i pull off and may be harder to get gears in the usual, but that will soon go away.

Now when im sitting in fifth gear it whiirs away, can be heard better when in a tunnel.

Jst wondering why it oonly really whirrs when in 5th gear???

when in im in neutral and move the stick over for reverse you can hear in whine a litle but its mainly only when in 5th, i would of thought it would be in any gear

Also how long will a clutch realease bearing last for??

Just i dont really see the point in getting a clutch done when the one i have at the mo could possibly have 2k left on it...

normally the wining is from the gearbox not the clutch.

My 1.1 box winned like fuck in 5th.

stop being a tight cunt and replace the clutch chris does it at a really good price or do it yourself.
But if the box is winning will need a new box. Boz's box winned then blew up iirc.

thing is tho, if i hamer the car, it will whirr in EVERY gear VERY badly an wont select 1st, 2nd or 3rd but it wil then stop, which led me to believe it was the realease bearing

and yea im being a tight git, got no money ha

if its only wining in gears i would of thought it was your box, no ? get it look over mate dont wanna get stuck with a blown box :|

could just be the bearing like. get that all replaced. then if still doing it then the box is foobar.

But either way get the clutch done.

could get a new box cheap enough if it did go, as there is a citroen breakers near me, if i was to get a new box, would a VTS box be better???

Also, am i correct in thinking that if i went and got a new box, it wold have a clutch already in it??

you wouldnt get a clutch with the box the clutch is on the engine side of things but its more cost efective to get the clutch done at same time while you got the whole thing out, would only make sence and stupid not to imho lol

    totally wrong.

Clutch is attached to the engine not a gearbox.

You will get better acceleration with teh VTS box but poorer mpg as it doesnt have a long final drive like the VTR box.
If your not planning on using the car on track and being hardcore i would stick a VTR box back on tbh.

Not sure what richie is doing with his VTR box if swapping etc as you could buy his.

wtf, you learn sumit new evriday, i would of thought the vts box was better than the vtr that means the faster engine has a shit box and would be revvin its bollox of in 5th, no ?? confused now...

could do like, depends what clutch you want, valeo is farely expensive but i got mine cheap as they fucked up.

Am fairly good at doing them now even though i say never again once done.

But chris is fairly cheap including parts.

As for the revs etc. There is a thread on here somewhere with speeds and revs.

VTS box gives better acceleration but shitter MPG.

The final drives etc are matched to engine speeds.

    VTS 5th Gear 60mpg = 3000rpm
VTR i think is the same as above.
But if start changing the gearboxes that all changes.

i wont rip you off, mate rates but it will take me all day. And will need a hand maybe to lift the box on so you might get a little dirty for a few mins haha thats the hardest bit putting the box back on.

Speak nearer the time, price up a clutch as if its £80 be more cost effective to get chris to do it, as you need new oil etc.

But i could use your car to do my guide lol
